Hello, i'm going to be rebuilding my GSR pretty soon and am getting numbers from here and there. The reason i ask is because a local shop is trying to charge me $410 to file rings, measure for bearings and assembly of pistons, rods and crank and $400 for the machine shop hot tank, hone, jet wash and deck. Does this sound right? Sorry if its in the wrong place, there's no engine building.
1. What is the price for the assembly itself of the short block?
2. What is the machine shop rates? (hone, deck, hot tank)
Thanks in advance

Assembly price is not too bad. Why do you need to deck the block? I was charged $150 for bore/hone and micropolish my crank. It was not hot tanked but $400 is kinda high to me.
Every machine shop is different the one that I know charges a flat $300 to assemble...Hone around $60, hot tank and clean $100
I think the assembly with rings and everything sounds right, the other $400 sounds a little high

IMO, that's a bit high for the services you said would be done, but not by much maybe $65-$85. Pricing is going to vary from area to area and who is doing the work.
We normally see $725 for what you have listed.
