Buying a turbo car - n00b questions (sorry)
In the process of buying a teggy, i stumbled upon a great deal. A little more money than I had planned to spend, but well worth it.
The car is turbo. I have never owned a turbo car, and honestly haven't learned too much about them because I thought I wouldn't have one for a while.
What should I look at hard when I'm going to buy it? He says the turbo has been on for 15k miles with no problems, and compression checks out at 225 PSI on all 4 cylinders. How's this turbo with the setup?
Here are the listed specs on a stock ITR engine (315 crank hp @ 10psi):
Rev Hard Turbo Kit Garrett T3/04e Turbo, 57 trim
Spearco Front Mount Intercooler
Tial 35mm Wastegate / Vortech Blow Off Valve
Thermal 3” Exhaust
Precision 580cc Injectors/AEM Fuel Rail
AEM Fuel Pressure Regulator
Turbo Smart Dual Stage Manual Boost Controller
Greddy Turbo Timer
Neptune, tune by Jeff Evans at Evans tuning
Clutchmasters Stage 3 Clutch and Flywheel
Fal Slimline Fans
Thanks

Well, what year is the car? Swapped motor? Good interior? Milage? What's the purpose of you buying it? Daily driver? Road racer? Drag car?
Ask those questions first and then figure out if you need a turbo'd car. Learn more about them first

What psi is he running? I ran ~8 psi on stock internals on a B18c1 with no major issues. Pressure check is good. But like Boostdc4 said, it is going to develop problems sooner or later. I'm hesitant on buying other peoples crap anyway.

It's a 2000 ITR with original engine (55k miles). The car is EXTREMELY fresh, thats the main reason I want to get it. I wouldnt mind removing the turbo setup just for the car. I want to drive it sometimes, and autocross a little. He has different springs to run from 3 to 10 PSI.

Sound like a decent setup. If you know how to take care of the car than it shouldn't be a problem. But anything that you're going to push it to its limits will eventually break down on you sooner or later.

Take a look at the car, Odd smoke comming out of exhaust ( white, blue, or black)
look under the hood and under the car for things leaking
Take it for a drive check trans for grinding, clutch slippage, Give it a little spirited drivign to see if anything acts up
Dont just let the car run for a minute, let it warm up to the correct operating temperature..
Also how much is he asking?

Re: (sc4dr)
Thanks for the input. We were actually going to trade for my 05 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. The bank doesn't seem to be coming through. They said the NADA value on an ITR is $12k, and they won't give me more than $14k for it.
Looks like I'll be letting this one pass....
