Default To build, or not to build

Ok so heres the deal. I have a 95 Del Sol that I am doing a B series swap in. I can get a 99 LS swap complete minus tranny for $475.

My goals are a small 250whp. So here is my problem. This is a daily driven car so I need it to be reliable and last as long as possible before a rebuild. Should I:

1) Keep it stock and turbo charged

2) Just find a cheap block and build with after market parts.

What are the stock LS rods/pistons capable of?Like I said keep in mind that the goal is only 250whp and it's daily driven.

Thanks

Great Advice. Give [email]Arthur@http://www.etrackmasters.com a call if you need a vtec head or any work done.

Well the vtec option is there, but at $500 for a vtec head it's quite a bit more. There would be no reason in buying a full B18 swap, just to have to drop another $500 on a head.

I just don't see the purpose of the price of the head which would fund a nice chunk of the turbo build. What are the real benefits to going with vtec. It's only about what another 30hp and not much more torque.

You should try to see if the person will sell you just the block,or just buy the ls swap and if that's not enough power for you,buy the vtec head later if the funds permit.

That was what I was thinking. If I decide I need more power I will buy a vtec head. More than likely here is what will happen. I will buy the LS and turbo charge it stock.

Buy another block, a vtec head and build it right. Then swap and sell the stock LS swap at a later date. Won't be anytime soon though. I have a 79 El Camino SS to finish restoring also.

Thanks for the help guys.

Sounds like a plan to me.I'm actually in the same situation as you are.I'm looking for a fully functional ls block so that I can throw my old ls head on and boost it stock.I still have my old ls block in pieces waiting for a rebuild and I have the b16 swap that's currently in the car.Ls blocks are cheap and if you plan on rebuilding,I would just search for a bare block, will save you a few bucks.Good luck with your build.

Anyone know the torque rating on B18 rods and pistons?
