Breaking in a new Turbo?

Default Breaking in a new Turbo?

I dont remember breaking in my first turbo.

But the turbo that I just bought, the guy said I need to break it in for 1k Mile. And he said to use 10w-30 and once it breaks in it will spool up faster.

Do turbos need break in?

No break in period. Fill the CHRA with oil--pull it out of the driveway--boost down the street.
Thats what I did.....

Yeah thats what I did with my first turbo. I just put it in and boosted it.

However, my friend with an SI with a Greddy turbo kit said after his turbo break in (500 miles), he said his turbo spooled up a lot faster.

Hmm, i dunno. Maybe the carbon settled on the inside of the turbine housing and smoothed it out--giving it a polished-type effect.
Theres way too many variables.
But, no, I still dont think there is a need for a turbo break in.
A tag came on my turbo saying there is no need for it. I think that Garret probably knows what they are talking about.

I don't think you could wait for that 1000 miles anyway, you know you're gonna boost.

wait, some of you guys actually stay off boost for 1k miles? Geez, talk about will power. That's like saving it for marriage... when you're 50

I would still prime it or add some oil in the housing to preapre it though. That is just me though.
