Default Breaking in a new Turbo?

I dont remember breaking in my first turbo.

But the turbo that I just bought, the guy said I need to break it in for 1k Mile. And he said to use 10w-30 and once it breaks in it will spool up faster.

Do turbos need break in?

No break in period. Fill the CHRA with oil--pull it out of the driveway--boost down the street.
Thats what I did.....

Yeah thats what I did with my first turbo. I just put it in and boosted it.

However, my friend with an SI with a Greddy turbo kit said after his turbo break in (500 miles), he said his turbo spooled up a lot faster.

Hmm, i dunno. Maybe the carbon settled on the inside of the turbine housing and smoothed it out--giving it a polished-type effect.
Theres way too many variables.
But, no, I still dont think there is a need for a turbo break in.
A tag came on my turbo saying there is no need for it. I think that Garret probably knows what they are talking about.

*EDIT*
Just looked at your sig. We have the same turbo!

haha tight, Garrett didn't leave me any message saying there is no break-in required. Anyone know Garrett's email address?

I don't think you could wait for that 1000 miles anyway, you know you're gonna boost.

DRAG told me quote "there is no break in period for our turbo kits."

I would still prime it or add some oil in the housing to preapre it though. That is just me though.
