if it sounds like ch ch ch ch chuhhhhhh thats compressor surge. I have a vacuum manifold off of my brake booster, so i dont know what to tell ya bout vac source, I do reccomend it though I got a golden Eagle one. that way NO ?s about vacuum,ya know???
Also, I have a TIAL BOV and had to put a lighter spring in it to get rid of the surge I experienced. I run 10 PSI but the surge only happened at part boost levels though.

I have 22" vacuum at idle, and the 11psi BOV spring was too boo koo, went with a 9, now its fine.

Good luck!!!

I had this problem with my old BOV.. I heated up the spring and shrunk it and its been working great ever since..

If you loosened it and it doesn't sound better...tighten it and see what that does. If that doesn't help, make sure you have a good vac source hooked up to it.

I did all this with my old one and it still didnt work.. Crushing the spring down was the only way.. But this is a last option after you have checked and tried everything else..

Does it have a lower vacuum port like the Type S one does? Connect that to boost pressure and you will never see surge again.

Another reason it might not be working is that you have a vacuum leak.

I had been playing with the HKS SSQ BOV and also had this issue. Except once the engine got warm and the BOV as well, it started to work.

I also figured out that if there is any slight vacuum leak at all, when the vacuum in the manifold goes to 26" between gears, you won't get 26" because of the leak, and the BOV won't open up. Try getting a unique Vac signal from the manifold, if it is T'd with the FPR, I find that most FPR's especially aftermarket can't seal vaccum and have a slight leak.

The problem with the spring being too loose is that you will find that the car will jerk sometimes under part throttle acceleration because the BOV is unnecesarily opening up.

Spoon95, Can't do anything but crank down on the spring's preload some more and just don't boost too much when the car is cold because that BOV won't open up. It is better than the car jerking like crazy. I couldn't figure it out for the longest time until a buddy of mine pointed me to it. Check your vac lines for possible leaks too.

It feels like a misfire, I thought I was misfiring or something, but alas, it was the POS BOV.

hook your boost guage up to the t that is going to the bov, and check for vac. if it reads normally then you have a problem with your bov. mine was doing the same thing, i had it hooked up the the butterflies, i moved it to the fpr and now its fine, and you can definatly tell the difference!
