bout to turbo my b16
so i got a t3/t4 turbo kit that i traded my old civic for and want to run 7 psi.should i just replace the piston rings and bearings, and get some valve springs and retainers.or get pistons and rods also.its a b16a and its my daily driver so reliability is key here.just getting some opinions before i slap here on the crx.oh and stock or upgraded map sensor?

I think most people on here go about building or setting up their cars wrong.I think you should figure out where you plan the car to be when you are done with it and buy the parts that will get you there. On another note to open up a motor thats fine to replace just the bearings and rings is a waste of time without really replacing the internals. The map sensor really depends on what management you are going to use?

you shouldnt have to upgrade any of the internals or the map sensor if you only plan on running 7psi. i dont know what you all got in your turbo kit, but most likely your gonna need a clutch and some sort of fuel management.

I see you'er in Illinois, we help a lot of people every day, rather it be over phone, internet or in person that just have general questions. Feel free to give us a ring if you need questions answered. We want people to get informed, specially if you're gonna handle stuff yourself, or else something might go wrong and you'll fall into that category of turbo kits being garbage or not belonging on a Honda.

Re: bout to turbo my b16
a lot of people will agree to stay away from the chipped ecu..yea its been done but its not for YOUR setup. if a compression test reads good no need to open up the motor. i would replace the headgasket and while your there some arp head studs. on your turbo set up we need more info to see if anything needs replaced. hope this helps. and happy boosting

Re: bout to turbo my b16
wats a baseline number for the compression test.i know a new engine would be like 180-175 but wat is not good enough.il check it tomorrow.wat do u suggest for engine managment then.i dont have alot of money for the aem or hondata s300.or wat about a fmu?i think im gona get some injectors to be on the safe side though so im not runnin the stock ones at full duty cycle.i heard blue top dsm's are good.450's i think.besides that though its a stock b16a with exedy flywheel, stage 3 clutch, full exhaust, the intercooler has the bov mounted on it, i think its called a trap door setup.and boost is gona be controlled by a 7 psi wastegate spring.let me know if u need anymore info

I own RCautoworks so I'm usually always here, if not the other owner is always here as well, he is a clone of myself so either of us can help you. As for engine management a chipped ecu with a tune will be just fine, plenty of guys running over 450hp with a chipped ecu, we've setup cars making over 500hp on a chipped ecu with ectune and a full dyno tune. You just gotta make sure you get it tuned, don't run a basemap ( base tune )

Re: bout to turbo my b16
lt1guy if you are wanting to run the dsms you will also need to wire in a resistor box since those injectors are peak and hold...its not hard its been covered quite a few times. fmu never messed with one and probably never will. i have ran a basemap on my first turbo integra from phearable.net from 5-10psi for 3 years never had a problem but thats the luck of the draw. john is always willing to answer your questions there also. ectune, crome, hondata i believe still provide chipped ecu tunes, as long as you get that baby tuned you will be fine. one last thing do yourself a favor and invest in a wideband air fuel gauge, it will help you keep an eye on things. hope this helps.

Re: bout to turbo my b16
I already have a resistor box i was gona have RC take a look at it when i get a chance to run up there, its supposed to snow tomorrow an alot Saturday plus my paycheck from the shop so maybe il make enough money to grab a down pipe and an oil return line from RC .ill b goin up there sometime next week.il bring up my setup to get your guys opinion everything seems pretty legit besides the turbo.its a jdm sport(ebay).but its brand new so im sure it will last till i figure out exactly what the plans for this car are going to be, meaning what size turbo.

Re: bout to turbo my b16
Sounds like you need to do a little more research or get some more information, no need to bother with rings if the motor is healthy and you're only running low boost. What worries me is it seems like you might skip over a few key parts in the build, are you gonna get the car tuned ? What kind of kit did you end up getting ?
