Boosting too high!!
I was just out ripping around and trying to pay attn to my boost gauge. The wastegate I have is the one that comes in the Spark kit springed for 8.7lbs. When I get the turbo spooled up it boosted to 15lbs!!!! No detonation and it did not go lean. I am wondering if the gauge is wacked or what? If it was spiking it wouldnt do it everytime would it? Help me out. Thanks.

well are you tuned past 9 psi if so I doubt youd have detonation. Check the gauge, check your lines to make sure they are clean and not kinked (mainly the lines going to the wastegate.) Yes, if it is spiking it should do it everytime unless the wastegate is just sticking closed for a sec. Does it come back down or keep rising?

Re: Boosting too high!! (30psi Teg)
At this point in time its untuned with a really good basemap only. The car idles perfect and never goes too lean. The boost gauge constatly rises from 5 - 14 or 15 and stays right there. I dont know how long it stays there becuase I shift it at 5300-5500 as advised based on not being tuned.

The spring would mke sence but I was told by the place I bought it from its a 8.7lb spring. OK so basically buy a Tial, huh?
Is there anything else that might be causeing this?

Other than a possible kinked line.
Also something I just thought of you said that you are untuned it could be a combination of too much ignition retard and too much fuel doing that but I seriously doubt it would spike that high.
Anyway just buy a tial.

it could just be bad placing on the manifold you said you have a spark racing kit does your manifold look like this by chance.

yep bet its the manifold they put the wastegate in a shitty spot causes a lot of boost creep.
Hell mine will hold 14 psi till about 5500rpm then rises from there to 30psi at redline.
