Default boosting a sohc - cathcan setup needed?

Okay I am going to boost my d16z6 pretty soon and I was wondering what I would need to do, if anything with the pcv setup. I should also add that I really don't even know what the pcv system does. I'm only boosting 9 lbs if that matters.

Anybody have any real life experience? Could I boost it and just leave it the way it is (stock)?

put a breather filter on the valve cover and route a line from the stock baffle tank on the back of the block to a slash cut in the exhaust (after cat if you have one) to suck out vapors and relieve pressure on the crankcase. or you could route the baffle tank to a tube in the intake before the turbo, this is emissions friendly. Doing this is beneficial, helps with oil consumption, gives (perhaps negligible) better performance. Some 3/8" hose should stuff into the stock breather tank, it's pretty easy.

At minimum, you'd probably want to disconnect the line going from the intake manifold to the crankcase (w/ pcv valve).

I have been boosted for 2 years and haven't ran a catch can setup.

ive been boosted for nearly 3 years and have always had the PCV system in place.

i have put a catchcan in between the intake manifold and the pcv valve to collect oil before.

the PCV is essentially a check valve, no positive pressure will enter the crankcase. but you do want pressure to escape from the crankcase... especially in boost.

you can do like eastbay92cx said, but a. oil getting into your exhaust will create the bluish-white smoke we hate seeing and b. oil will get into your compressor housing/charge pipes/IC. also not a good thing.

if you do either of those, put a baffled catchcan inline to collect oil before entering exhaust or turbo intake.

So you're running an OEM, PCV-in-stock-location, hose from the valve cover to intake setup?
