Default Boosting the D, need help from the pros

Ok I am bossting my d16y8, and i need to get the cheapest (cost) yet most effective setup. I've been cruisin through homemadeturbo.com forums and it seems that all you need is the guts of a turbo setup, any cars, any model and it will work? That said what kind of turbo should I get? An old mitsu like the ones in the greddy kits? They sell pretty cheap on ebay. Also, piping jcwhitney? If I get a VAFC do I need to get any other computer mods?(I have a p28) Finally, downpipe, how hard is it to make one? My buddy has some basic welding skills, think we could make one ourselves?

Thanks, looking for POWER
Dan

Their is your first problem. It's not going to be cheap.

If you want "around the town" power, go with a smaller turbo such as t25 or td04-15g. You can probally find a downpipe for a reasonalbe price here on HT.

As far as piping I have never delt with JC Witney so I don't know.

The VAFC will work fine for the time being until you want to turn up the boost.

my a6 have been boosted about 2 weeks now with a t25 turbo with smic, and it feels great for only six pounds of boost, for my piping i went to a muffler shop and got them to bend the pipes i needed, it doesnt flow as good as mandrel bend but who cares it was cheap and the muffler shop usually works wit u, as with ur down pipe , i got muffler shop to do it for me, it will be hard to try and connect everything laying on ur back. i ended spending about a 1000 on my set up , it ended up been twice as much as i thought but its is well worth it. i love boost nothing like it

contact mike huml of slowboyracing.com, he sells bolt on turbo kits for hondas and other applications...My friend got a t-20 kit for his 99 d16y8 and went from a 17 sec car to a 15 sec car, they are upgradeable...you can bolt on a t-28 later in life and make more power and he sells front mount kits and other things to upgrade...the t-20 kit would probablly get you like 160whp maybe a lil more, the kit price is 1250.00 comes with all the lines, down pipe, charge pipes, cast manifold, fpr, and the volt box to full the map sensor when in boost....no check valves required, its a great starter kit and it bolts in in a few hrs....check them out at http://www.slowboyracing.com
