BOOST AND TIMING PROS AND CONS
I would like input from everyone on this.. what do you think is better for a daily driven boosted car. more boost and less timing or more timing and less boost?
More timing less boost
( PROS)
Less cylinder pressure.
more power per pound.
Possibly lower EGT's
(CONS)
Have to run high octane fuel all the time.
probably promotes detonation.
detonation can do even more damage.
worse gas mileage??
More boost less timing.
(PROS)
Can make decent power on 93 Octane.
Less chance of detonation due to less timing.
Detonation may not cause as much damage.
Better gas mileage??
(CONS)
More cylinder pressure due to more boost, possibly raising EGT's
less power per pound.
If any of my info is inaccurate let me know and also add anything to the list and add your $0.02

Re: BOOST AND TIMING PROS AND CONS (fox297)
I run 22 psi on pump with like ony 15 degrees total advance at WOT. I pulled 104.9 mph traps however with 22 degrees total advance and 18 psi boost. I personally like less boost, but the motor is less "picky" about detonating with *more* boost but much less timing advance.

Tune the timing to make the car run right; not to "make power." Advancing timing will eventually result in a loss of power and pre-ignition.

Re: BOOST AND TIMING PROS AND CONS (highmilehatch)
Assuming that both are making the same power level, I think the one with more boost will have higher mid-range torque. I've also heard that higher compression will spool the turbo faster and has higher torque off boost.
