Default Boost gauge reading is off?

Weird issue that i'm having. I have a 11psi spring on my 38mm tial wg. boost gauge says 11psi. when i was tuning, my tuner said i was only boosting 6psi (i had boost gauge unhooked because i had my map sensor using the vacuum port) And i just installed my greddy profec b type 2 and it also says im boosting about 6.5psi, while my autometer boost gauge reads 11psi.

What do u guys think the issue is? boost gauge is inaccurate?

thats way off i would try and hook up another boost gauge and see what it reads

edit: if the spring is an 11 psi spring and our boost gauge reads 11 psi then it sounds like your tuner might be wrong idk thats weird

yeah try and use another boost guage, depends on the tuner, but most reputable tuners have alot of experience and i would trust there word. what port is the greddy profec hooked up to?

i doubt the tuner is wrong b/c my greddy profec b also says 6.5psi..

The vacuum line is ran off to a T off the back of my intake manifold which in then is T'd off to my boost gauge. So its coming from the same source.

hmm, did your tuner figure it was at 6.5psi from the profec, map sensor, or his own guage?

Crome, which read it from the map sensor. I believe it said 6.9psi.

When the car is off, does the gauge read at the 0 mark?

I noticed on one my friend had in his blown mustang that when he would turn off the car the needle would return to like right at the 3 psi mark, ended up being off almost exactly that 3 psi when he checked it with another one. He sent it back to autometer and they recalibrated it.

I know alot of people say these gauges are not accurate, but I have not had a problem with mine and alot of people locally seem to have little issue with them besides that boost gauge. Guess we have had a good run of luck for the most part.

I have 2 older autometers and they are off by a few psi also.

Yea, when it's off, it's at the 0 psi mark. Ive never had issues before, i had a 6psi spring in there, and the gauge read 6psi, and I now have a 11psi spring, and the gauge reads 11psi. Not sure why the map sensor and the greddy profec say 6psi.

Mechanical gauges seem to be more reliable than electronic sensors if they are calibrated right.

Face it your gauge is a lemon.

So you have an 11psi spring for sure? And the gauge reads 11psi.
I would mess around with the profec for a while. Cause unless your turbo can't make more than 6.5psi, you would have to have a nast leak somewhere before the wastegate to have that happen. An 11psi spring shouldn't be able to boost less than 11psi unless there's another issue.

Auto-Meter boost gauges have a tendency to be a tad off.

A tad is like 1-2psi, not a whole 5-6psi off, right? In either case, i'll borrow my friend's gauge this weekend and see if it reads it accurately.

If you can, use a stainless steel line. Something that will not as much "growth" of "flex" like a rubber or plastic line like Auto-Meter supplies.

Autometer boost gauge? I've had quite a few of those be off as much as 3 psi from what the gauge showed to what the dyno showed.
