Boost Controllers - Whats The Tiny Hole For?
Im sitting here lookin at my JoeP MBC and its got this little hole drilled into the corner, I cant for the life of me figure out whats its for or why its there
Its like a 1mm hole right in the side
what does this do?
Im kinda new to this so can someone explain to me what exactly a boost controller also can do for an internally wastegated turbo? I can raise boost with this right?

Re: (I Have an STD)
That little hole bleeds the pressure? I dont get it then? How is it regulated?
I always thought that the ball was set by the spring so it wouldnt move so far
WTF is the ball for then
Now Im lost

The bleeder hole in a checkball controller lets the wastegate close again after you are done boosting, otherwise the checkball would hold the pressure in the line and hold the gate open.
Boilermakers response was correct for a bleeder-type boost controller.

Whats a bleed type boost controller?
Also, these manual boost controllers work with internal wastegated turbos right? I wanna run my internally gated turbo to 15psi, but its only actuated for 8-10
thanks

Read from about page 4 to the end. It will descibe what the hole is for and the differences between a bleeder type MBC and a ball and spring MBC.

Re: Boost Controllers - Whats The Tiny Hole For? (TurblowEF)
that tiny hole is there for the purpose of letting pressure escape a setup where the MBC is on the INTERNAL WASTEGATE ACTUATOR.
because the boost pressure has no where to go, it cant go back into the pressure source, it leaves through the hole.
on external wastte gate, the hole isnt nessessary because boost leaves the external wastegate itself.

Re: Boost Controllers - Whats The Tiny Hole For? (2point2)
With all due respect to the previous posts... the hole is there beacuse you get more accurate control (and gauge reading) if flow is dynamic rather than static. The small hole allows for a little flow, not enough to affect spool in anyway yet enough to allow the MBC to do a better job. Better job defined as maintaining your desired boost pressure more consistently and should your boost gauge be hooked up to the same line, a more accurate reading.
