Default Boost controller Vs. Wastegate spring...

What is the advantage (if there is one at all) of throwing a 10psi sping in my tial apposed to just keeping the 6psi spring and adding a simple manual boost controller? The boost controller will not allow me to boost any less than 10psi with the big yellow while the .4 bar spring would give me the option of changing it to convervative boost when needed. These wastegate springs are kind of pricy and seem to be big on the black market... so why are people looking for the higher psi springs when a $20 ebay manual boost controller will suffice? This may be a dumb question, but im kind of at a loss...

wastegate spring is good, but you can't lower boost unless you take out the spring and put in the lower spring. pain in the ***.

I used my ball and spring $9.99 ebay mbc for two years. never over boosted.

I am now using Apex-i AVCR for a few reasons.

1. multiple boost settings
2. boost by gear
3. boost by rpm
4. bling bling factor, lol.

The lower the spring pressure the harder it will be for you to get high boost out of it. You need to think about how many psi you want to run and get a WG spring that could attain the max boost level and hold it there. Example: if you have a 5lb spring you will have a difficulty time hitting 30lbs max boost(for track use or what ever.) You have to compromise. I am using a 13lb spring in my Tial because I have no need for less.. but I can get 30lbs out of it when I need it.

I heard somewhere that the rule of thumb is, if using a BC then your spring should not be less than half of what your target boost pressure is at.

example, if you were going to 20psi then the least spring you should get is 10psi.

I think that is a good general rule to go by.

to the above two posts.
I have a 7~psi spring right now, and can only squeeze about 18psi out of it.
The general "rule of thumb" is you can to double a springs rating with a boost controller. Some get more, some get less.
