Re: Boost Controlled Open Downpipe (H-T)
I've read/heard those are a real good products. I'd be real interested in trying out one of those, although is there a big advantage by using this one as apposed to the electronic cut out?
ATP turbo sells those correct?
EDIT> obviously they do, if i would just look at the link first

Re: Boost Controlled Open Downpipe (H-T)
They work great if you don't use that "T" configuration. Also...when the valve open your peak power will go up, but you will not see a faster spool since the valve don't open until it see's a certain amount of boost. If you could get the valve to open before the turbo starts boost'n (like the E cutout) then you will enjoy faster spool up
Pro's: no electrical mechanical parts to break down, simple design that will work with a boost controller to controll when the or how much the valve open's.
Con's: can not open valve with out boost= no benefit of faster spool. having to use a boost controller to controll the valve. T pipe design will restrict exhaust flow.

I dunno, I think that Id rather pick up the DMH electric one that has a 4 year warrenty on it and I can open and close it with the flip of a switch....

i have seen one on a car, and the owner said it was crap, he said it is so slow to open he would rather not have went thru the problem of hackin up his exhaust to put it on, he is now looking into an electric cutout

Re: Boost Controlled Open Downpipe (D-booster)
Why would you have to use a boost controller to open the valve. The boost controller is only a solenoid controlling the pressure, it's not make any additional usable pressure.

very simple.. u can use a boost controller to allow it to open when you make full boost, or you can have it open immediately entering boost, or whatever psi you want.. or you can even keep it closed. all done with a manual boost controller hooked up to it.

Re: (DragSource)
So how would your map react to this if during daily/normal driving it was closed, and then when in boost it opens up? isn't the exhaust just dumping shorter than a full exhaust system going to throw something off if you get it tuned when routed through the whole exhaust?

You would have to tune it with the cutout... it would be different than with a full exhaust...

Looks sweet.....Just don't like the tee.....I think a y pipe would be better. But it is a simple piece to hook up just need to tee the vacuum and weld that bitch in.

Got that part, but essentially, isn't this for when you don't want to use your full exhaust during regular driving, so this cut out dumps it when in boost.... so do you just tune your car with the cutout closed and then tune again when it's open?

Re: (Thurman Merman)
Ok...you guys are making this thing sound way complicated then it really is. It opens up everytime you go into boost. So...no need to worry about tunening it close and tuning open. Just tune it . Air/fuel ratio's will be the same when it close and different when it opens. I will need to tune my engine with my E-cutout open since it does not automatically open. My air/fuel ratio's will just be tad rich when the cutout is closed. The best way is to tune it at night when the air is cold. If you tune when it's hot or warm, then when its cold your run lean.

Re: (B18Flip)
It's higher, it's just like an internal wastegate. If you've ever messed with one you've probably noticed that it doesn't start to open till > 5psi. You can physically blow about 2-4psi and that does not open it. We've had some contest with mechanical boost gauges

Re: (ScottEK)
my firend ran one, it sucked
it broke after 2 months and doesn't open in boost
pos
stay away
wait for a gen 2 with better welds and works better
i notice i talk like im on AIM, no . or , hahah funny

Re: (Quad-Damge)
Yea it's prolly best to wait till prople have had there experence's with them. And then go out and get the 2nd gen. When it is alot better. Just to add that DMH one looks nice and it is pretty cheap.
