Default Boost coming on to quick

I've got a b16 with a holset hy35 and when it starts spooling it takes like half a second to go from 5psi to 10psi and melts the tires.

Is there anyway to slow the transition?

I'm running open wastegate dump and I was thinking that running it into the exhaust might help slow the spool a little.

I was reading the other day, and someone had mentioned that he was able to tune out such a harsh transition... But with some turbos, it just happends no matter what you do. 15psi in my car even with the tires @ 14psi just spins em...

Have fun!

By progressive boost controller do you mean something like a gear based boost setting? These are expensive aren't they.
