maybe it was just the lighting or reflection of something on the street? Street light reflecting off the road, water on street giving a glow? I've never heard of blue and Red smoke coming out of cars before... ever.... in my entire life.

I'm having the same issue but to a more serious scale. Blue smoke means there's oil where it shouldn't be.
Several causes for this:
1. pistons rings are bad or going bad
2. turbo oil seals are bad or going bad
3. Oil leak somewhere
4. obstruction in the oil feed or return lines ( which can lead to #2)
5. Obstruction in the crankcase breather.
or seep past the seals or rings..
