blue smoke when sitting over a day?
I have a 00 civic si and its been boosted for about 800 - 1000 miles...the engine has 56k on it.....ok, so i didnt drive the car yesterday and today when i turned it on it was smoking blue everywhere....alot of smoke....the thing is on dp so i looked under there and it was just puffing out blue smoke.....i guess im burning oil but after i started driving it went away....when i get on it hard ill see a little smoke come inside the car...i have an oil leak which is right on top of the dp so i thought it was oil dripping on the dp when hot but when i got under there to look today i noticed it was puffing blue smoke.....yes i know i know, rings or valve seals but why will it go away? the turbo kit was brand new btw........

its more than likely the vave seals because when it sits for a while it gives the oil in the head time to leak past the seals. this is where bad seals start out. in my last motor, my valve seals started out like this and before long it burned oil when driving also.

it doesn't mean that you are losing enough to see it in a week or so. it only takes a few drops of oil to leak past your seals to be able to see blue smoke.

I compression tested his car a couple minutes ago to put his mind at ease. I will let him post the results. Turned the injectors and coil off. Wide open throttle. 8 cranks

ok so i had the valve seals replaced by a well known mechanic and it still doing it.....i guess if its not the valve seals then it is the piston rings? Thing is, right after the head was put on i was there when they fired it up..it didnt smoke at all but when it sat over night it smoked this morning...which still sounds like valve seals to me wtf.....damn.....

Re: (agrn93ls)
i called the mechanic up and he said he couldn't visibly notice anything wrong with the valve seals but then again u cant see anything unless they're really screwed heh.....so we were talking and i mentioned that i dont have a restrictor on my feed line but it is a -3 line and i know people who dont run them and are fine.....he said to try one and if not he thinks it is the rings...while driving i sometimes smell the same burnt oil smell that i get in the mornings when the smoke starts....after pushing it hard sometimes i get a little bit of smoke rise into the cabin with the same smell since the downpipe is right in between both front seats....hope its not the rings but its looking more and more like it.....

Yo nordy the white smoke from the can is vapor. both icc and me get the same white smoke, oh and ive seen shawns car do it also. you need to buy a leakdown test and go from there.. stop beating your head on the wall and buy the tester.

Re: (building boost)
you guys are right..if the leakdown tester is not too crazy expensive ill buy it and we'll do it saturday or something at brother's shop....that way we have a leakdown tester in the fam we all could use in situations like this to relieve stress....or.....to multiply it lol thanx guys lets see what happens....

Re: (Nordy)
Only thing I could think of, assuming its not the block/head, is that you need to further restrict the oil to the turbo. -3an is .125" ID, and many people run .050" or smaller restrictors and don't have chra oil starving/overheating(oil-cooled only) issues. It could be that when you shut if off, the chra is filled enough with oil (due to overfilling/under draining) to weep out a tiny bit into the housings before the level drops enough.
Otherwise theres the outside chance its a valve doing this. It could get scratched just enough in a worst-case scenerio to leak oil by even new seals.
Only test I can suggest is to leave it sit for the usual period, pull the spark plug wire and injector clip from cyl 1, start it up, observe exhaust color, turn off, plug them back in, restart it up & observe. Repeat the next 3 days to check all 4 cylinders. You can at least determine what cylinders are causing it.
