here's a picture of my blockguard that's inside my D16Y8. i'm quite sure that I wouldn't be able to boost the pressures i'm boosting today without it. All I seem to be breaking now (every 4 months or so) is toyota pistons, but it serves me right for not using forged pistons. Still when one piston costs you $20 each, who's complaining? Won't be using this engine for much longer anyways... *hint hint*

Yeah, I can agree with every point in your copied post but I would like to add a very important reason for Honda going back to open deck -it is cheap for Honda to make, do you have an idea how much money they save by not casting water jackets. Even porsche boxster engines have screw in open deck sleeves. Porsche can have the sleeves unscrewed and replaced with almost no machinework. and the head acts as the deck by using improved sealing methods

I've been wondering about this for a long time. A lot of people say "no" and give their theory, but when you first saw or heard about a blockguard, its purpose made a lot of sense. The only problem with heating I saw was fixed with drilling more holes in the right places in the blockguard. I'm gonna put one in my car. Everybody I talked to with one hasn't had a problem (except that heating one and that was fixed). The ones that do blow up get excited and boost 18psi or something like that. If I wanted to boost that much I'd get iron ductile sleeves. I think i'd be safe around 10psi + or - a couple of psi.

I plan on running 20 on my b16 with a guard and forged internals.... If it works GREAT, if not... Well, Oh well.

There's a LSVTEC CRX in town that ran 25PSI++ and it went 12.6 letting off at the 1/8. STR block guard and wiseco's and good rods. Too bad he parted out the car with only 80 Miles on the clock... all track duty, but NO problems form the short block.

Still not sure. Probably B18C turbo. CRVTEC turbo sounds tempting.. but I think the B18C turbo will be stronger. Lets wait and see.. if things go well, the following will also be possible early next year.. (and if I get it, will scrap the whole Civic project altogether)

still talking it over with dad.. he doesn't sound too convinced.. so i think its gonna take time

I read what everyone had to say on the topic of Block Guards. We sell and distribute Nuformz Block Guards. Its the same one used in both of Steph Papadakis's Honda Civic's. As you know he's now running 8.1's @ 32 lbs of boost in the 1/4mile, still no problems... If you can't afford to Sleeve this is the next best thing for $120. AEBS has a great sleeve setup in San Diego, CA complete installed for around $2000 includes sleeves, final bore hone, and o-rings for turbo applications / pistons need to be supplied & takes about 10 days.

So what kinda power can be had with a b18c1, block guard, forged pistons, and rods? Arn't the stock cylinder walls good for 14psi or so? Is there any way to tell if the top of the cylinder walls are overheating since the water temp wouldn't go up?
