Default Block Cleaning Question

Have a few questions about block cleaning.

1) If done profesionally, how clean can I expect my block to be returned? Do they come back "brand new" looking, or do they just degrease and most staning remains? This is just a cosmetic question, so I'm not worried, just curious.

2) What methods do shops use to clean blocks? I know they used to hot tank, but I don't think they do that any more. As I recall, most places have switched to steam cleaning, but still call it hot tanking.

I have also heard of acid washing, but don't know anything about it.

Thanks for any input.
