I just installed a used Blitz Super Sound blow off valve. Now I have a problem with compressor surge. The problem is usually at lower rpms at lower boost levels. ILl let off the gas and the BOV wont open until it sees more than 15 in HG vacuum. Now I disaambled the BOV, cleaned it and greased it up. The problem got better but now its back again. At higher boost/rpms levels, no surge.
But at lower rpms, I get a fttt tsssh like I hear the compressor surge, then the bov opens. at really low rpms when no boost is built the compressor surges and the bov doesnt even open.
I tried adjusting it (less tension) and its better, but still surging.
The only think I can think off is either the BOV doesnt have a strong enough vacuum source (its teed off my FPR) but it never did this with my DSM.
I was thinking of shortening the bov spring until the bov opens under vacuum at idle like my dsm did, or machine a groove into the brass valve and install an o-ring to prevent any leaks within the BOV. Any ideas?

 

have you checked to see which spring you bov has. blitz offers two, one for 18 psi and under and one for 18 psi and over

 

Are you sure it's compressor surge? The bov is probably just fluttering. If you grease it too much it will attract dirt. On my TurboXS, I clean the piston with Mothers metal polish and wipe the insides out with WD40, then use a dry cloth to remove most of the WD40. Turbosmart's website had a .pdf file and suggests using hydraulic oil like Singer's sewing machine oil. I've had better luck using WD40 because it cleans as well. You might also try a different vacuum source, like the brake booster. That would make a huge difference.

if i cant solve the problem, will a bit of surge at low rpms hurt the turbo? i actually love the sound.

 

It won't help it.

 

"fttt tsssh" sounds like fluttering to me, and not compressor surge, especially at low rpms.
