Blew the SC61, can I replace w/something similar?
I have a GSR built bottom block tuned with Hondata 4b. My SC61 has completely gone and needs machine work. Would it be ok if I just opted to buy a cheaper, Garret T3/T4 and put it in the SC61's place? What kinda problem will I be looking at? I had an extremely conservative tune (10psi) since I was planning to race later on.
TIA

Contact member B18C1CYA, I think he had that same turbo with little use and lunched it on the dyno...

really any turbo should work as long as its got a t3 inlet and a 5-bolt exhaust housing. so if you dont want to have to change anything look for those two characteristics. and if you wanna upgrade than listen to muckman.
btw, which sc61 was it and what mani are you using? (for clearance reasons)

Edit: DOH, Nm. I'm looking for something smaller to spool up faster, but I'm not looking for crazy numbers at the same time. Just fun on the street. Also, not too expensive as in more than what it would cost for a new SC61.
Thanks for the suggestions.

dpetro1, it was an SC61E w/inlinepro mani</TD></TR></TABLE>
im assuming you had it mounted AC style with the compressor on the passenger side? does anyone know if something bigger, say an s-cover will clear like that?
if you are looking to go go smaller how bout an sc34 or sc50 even, still capable of some good numbers, better spool and will drop right in just like the sc61 did.

Yeah, that's correct.
I'm looking at those right now

yup your right , turned out the turbo was about 2 years old , but I only had about 1k miles on it , and the tech could tell from the turbine wheel so they took care of me for free , there customer service was awsome , had it back in about 2 weeks or so , pte
