Best Turbo Upgrade for K20C
I am looking to upgrade the turbo on a K20C4 motor in a 10th gen Accord EX-L 2.0T 10AT.
Makes 252hp/273lb. ft. in stock form with a TD03.
I'd like to be around 300hp or so at the crank, so roughly 50 more hp over stock.
It's my understanding that the TD03 is fairly maxed out at 252hp.
I have read that they make about 240-260 and some say as much as 300 but I'd really like a bigger turbo.
What are my options? This is my mom's car. it IS a 10spd auto and not the 6spd but I think it would perform fine at around 300 flywheel hp.
I need to do more research but I have considered the TD04 from the K20C1 engine. Mitsubishi turbos are cool and I think they work well on the K20C's.
I am also considering maybe a Garrett aftermarket.

Turbine Inlet Flange:
K20C has cast-in-head manifold.
Would need an adapter of some kind to bolt a T25 or T3 to the head?
Does anyone know specifics of the K20C cast-in-head exhaust port? Bolt spacing? Port Shape/Size?
I'm pretty sure K20C4/K20C1 motors share the same cast-in-head exhaust port too;
Could potentially use an adapter designed for either motor to adapt to the upgraded turbo.
Wastegate:
Factory K20C4 used MHI TD03 which is internally gated but on this car uses a electronic wastegate actuator.
I'd be using factory ecu, it might be cool but not possible to even keep current electronic wastegate actuator and make it work to control aftermarket interally gated turbo.
This could work but the particular ecu control and voltages and actual physical actuator rod travel in proportion/relation might not work.
Otherwise I'm thinking I could use an aftermarket electronic/vacuum solenoid, properly calibrated/configured to work with oem ecu to control aftermarket internally gated turbo
via a standard vacuum type internal wastegate actuator.
Downpipe:
Not 100% sure what the downpipe is on the OEM TD03.
5-Bolt might be cool, V-Band might be cool too. Either way it would probably need a custom downpipe for the upgraded turbo.
BOV:
Currently the Accord has a recirc OE BOV.
I would probably take the opportunity to change this to an aftermarket atmospheric BOV
Intercooler:
Would it make sense to upgrade intercooler? Would current OE Intercooler work for +50hp?
Charge Piping:
Maybe change/upgrade/go custom with charge piping? Or not, idk

Going to need a way to tune the ecu too. I'm not sure what installable boards or flash type systems are available for the 10th Gen Accord 2.0T but
I am leaning more towards these rather than a complete stand alone system just becasue it's my mom's car and I'm only really looking to upgrade tubo and add 50hp or so.
Also cost, after harness, sensors etc. and a stand alone it would be $2,000+ and that just doesnt weigh out. Its not cool to have a $2k stand alone just to upgrade your turbo.
I am thinking the HONDATA FlashPro:
Boost Control
Fuel & Ignition & Many More Parameter Tuning
VTEC Control
Flex Fuel
Rev, Launch & Speed Limiters
Map tracing & Lambda Overlay
OBD-II Port Programmable USB ECU Interface
20 Hours On-board Datalogging

Hondata FlashPro will be all that you need. As for turbo choices, an OE FL5 (23+) CTR turbo or the 27WON Kuro turbo are "Bolt-On" turbochargers and will only require a CTR type CAT/downpipe and a few hoses and brackets for proper installation. All that silliness you were referring to so that you can use a Garrett GT2860R... BAD IDEA. Remember this is your Mom's car, so keep it simple. Also, with respect to your BOV questions... one that 100% vents to atmosphere will cause a few issues since you have a MAF based calibration... if you want the sound, I suggest you choose a hybrid style BOV that vents mostly back into the inlet (keeping the MAF happy), but does vent a portion of the compressed air into the atmosphere to give you some of the "sound" that you are looking for.
Yeah I think HONDATA FlashPro is way to go for this car and for this particular upgrade anyway.
So aftermarket turbo bad idea then?
('17-''21) FK8 & (23+) FL5 both have K20C1, Is there a difference between turbos?
What is needed for bolt-on upgrade? Cat/Downpipe, Gaskets, Bracket & some Hoses/Adapters/Fittings?
What about wastegate? Use FL5 electronic?
Hybrid BOV then?
Is FL5 intercooler any different? Would a aftermarket intercooler upgrade designed for Accord or FL5 work best? What about universal aftermarket?

So aftermarket turbo bad idea then? For the gains that you desire... it is WAY too much trouble and the cost will be unnecessarily high.
('17-''21) FK8 & (23+) FL5 both have K20C1, Is there a difference between turbos?Absolutely. The FL5 turbo is improved and has better performance potential over the FK8 turbo.
What is needed for bolt-on upgrade? Cat/Downpipe, Gaskets, Bracket & some Hoses/Adapters/Fittings? Yes, essentially.
What about wastegate? Use FL5 electronic? A new FL5 CTR Turbo from your local Honda Parts Department will come with a new electronic wastegate. An aftermarket "bolt-on" turbo like the 27WON Kuro will require moving the electronic wastegate over from your stock Accord turbo (and require the purchase of a CTR actuator arm).
Hybrid BOV then? Throttle and Boost response are best with a fully recirculating valve... the noisier it gets, the less effective it will be. Many owners trade peak performance for the BOV sound.
Is FL5 intercooler any different? Would a aftermarket intercooler upgrade designed for Accord or FL5 work best? What about universal aftermarket? An upgraded intercooler designed for the Accord is much easier to install than a universal aftermarket one... and the latter will not likely perform any better. Keep it simple.

Hoping to get a 23'+ CTR (FL5) MHI TD04 turbo. Will get matching downpipe, proper electronic wastegate actuator. Also necessary brackets/gaskets/hoses/fittings/hardware.
Might get an upgraded intercooler designed for CV2 Accord. Potentially a charge piping kit and/or an intake.
Then to tune/flash, a HONDATA FlashPro. Is there anything else I should do to get a FL5 TD04 on the Accord?
Going from 252hp / 273tq to about 300hp / 300tq (Potentially)
Should the fuel system be sufficient?
Would I need to run a different spark plug?

What about the new K20C8 in the Integra Type-S? I hear it is nearly identical to K20C1 in CTR but is mounted differently and makes slightly more power 320hp / 310tq.
Is it the same TD04 turbo? The added power probably comes from various things but mainly tune I'm thinking. Just curious.
Trying to add power and upgrade a K20C4 with OEM parts from other K motors.
