Default Best cams for a FI B16A?

I have always heard that GSR cams were best for boosted B16A's as far as using stock cams.

Is this true or would type R cams prove to be beter? Anybody got dyno sheets of a boosted b16 with stock cams and then the same b16, same setup/boost levels but with GSR cams?

TIA!

Ill admit i have NO IDEA! hahah

but seriously, i wouldnt waste time swapping to GSR... run the stocks... when you have the $$$$ upgrade the valve springs, titanium retainers.. install them with type R cams, or some sort of cam designed for turbo B series..

... i dont see doing all that work to go from B16 to B18C1 cam...

By the way, i have a stock engine,... except valve springs, retainers, and CTR intake cam. maybe a tiny bit of midrange difference, but i didnt really get them dialed in yet.

well, a GSR cam is a big step up from automatic B16 cams

 for the profile change in B16A's (auto/manual)

I have CTR's in my B16. Made 396whp on 15psi, I'd say they work pretty well.

ITR outers/Portflow inners w/ Ti retainers. I also have an ITR intake manifold. Turbo is a Precision SC50 .63 a/r.

All the mods are listed here: http://www.redline130.net/dragcrx.html

You guys (Boosted Si and Redline 130) are actually keeping the engine from blowing with that kind of boost on stock internals? If you guys have some different internals please let us know and thanks.

I'm on stock internals other than valvetrain upgrades. So far so good. When I pulled the plugs at the track this weekend, they looked very clean, cleaner than when I was N/A. Of course I'm also using C16 as well. I'm planning on running it till it goes...I have a spare LS block on the side that will be sleeved and bored.

I guess the consensus is on CTR cams now? Do they fit in the B16A head fine? Do I need to have the CTR cam sprockets too? What would I purchase for adjustable gears for them?

They will fit in the head no problem. You can use your B16 cam gears as well. If you wanted adjustable gears, any one made for B-series DOHC VTEC's will work.

Well, I'm not 100% that I have auto cams, but my ECU has AUTO written in paint on it, and my b16 is slower than most LS hatches that I have raced....

I do have an LS tranny though....

I'll have my car dynoed with b16 cams on the 16th.

I found a deal on some GSR cams for $55 shipped that I'm gonna jump on. I will then retune my car to the cams and adjustable sprockets. I'll post both dyno sheets in this thread when I get them in the coming weeks.

sounds good. I'll probally be doing the same. I scored gsr cams for 25 bucks locally. Still looks brand new. I too will be posting dynos of before and after and see what power is made and where.

can't wait to see yours..
