And you go off track once and you mulch your snail with sand. All you need to do, like everybody has said before me, is use two pieces of screen with a piece of terry cloth in between. Any thinner fabric will keep out particles and breathe well. If you can afford it, you can even use Under Armor fabric. Best of both worlds.
I run this combo on my throttle body because my stock intake arm wore a hole in itself.

Thanks for the advise. Next time I decide to take my car to the sand dudes and race a few 4 wheeler's I will remember what you said.

FWIW even a medium mesh with #6 x .O35 wire has only 66% open area.....which means it block off 34% of the inlet area. No thanks, I run a K&N.

Holy mathematical calculations batman!

This is a true statement. . . the screen really does block a lot of your surface area.
IMO - go for what works well, not what "sounds cool"

I run a K&N on my car all the time... My turbo was far to expensive to risk it... Still sounds "cool" to me.... I will say though, we removed the filter on the dyno and saw a 6hp gain (granted this filter is pretty dirty) so I ended up putting it back on and just turning the boost up a bit
I figure a car that is running sounds a lot cooler than the 'ca-ching' of a cash register after you shatter a compressor wheel due to a little pebble flying in or having the inside of your motor sandblasted with road debris.
try the mesh from your dryer. you know the mesh that catches the lint. hows that for an idea. Maybe im onto a new thing
Man, I don't know how many times this has been brought up. The screen will make LESS power than even a decent filter, i've done it a bunch of times on the dyno. You loose significant surface area with a screen on the turbo like that, not to mention all the **** that your motor injests. Buy a good filter and be done with it. I've made over 650whp with a small k&n filter, your motor and turbo will thank you...
