Default BeaterBoost's Built D16Y8 Novice thread

So I have a eh civic that I got from a buddy who built it with all new forged internals and a fully built head with titanium springs and retainers and turbo cam and ported and polished and has a xtd stage 4 clutch. Now my issue is the clutch is slipping cuz the buddy I got it from didn't know you have to break in a clutch when you install it and I wanna push as close to 400hp as possible. So my question is what all do I need to do to push it there and what parts are gonna be best and also since the clutch is slipping what is gonna be the best to handle the power and torque and abuse from not only dd but from track use. Thanks in advanced!

XTD clutches are junk, even if he didnt align it properly its most likely too late to go in there and re align it now.

transmission has to come off so its a big job either way, look around theres a how to thread here,

I made 400 HP on my exedy satge 2 havent had a single issue with it, I would recommend a clutch master fx400 thats what Im going with next time

There are plenty of people that have had no problem running xtd clutches. California dad always ran xtd clutches even at 500+whp and they always outlasted his engines lol. I've ran xtd stage 4 clutches and never had a problem with them even with insane amounts of abuse 50+ 11 second 1/4 mile passes and never breaking it in. Just put it in and beat on it lol. That particular clutch is still going strong with the new owner who also beats the **** out of it at the track. I think I comes down to installation error a lot of the time. I'm sure you can find many examples of xtd clutches failing (like any brand), but I'm just sharing my personal experience. That's all nothing more. I don't mean to turn this thread into a brand pissing contest lol. The best most street friendly clutch I've ever owned was a spec stage 3+ full face, it literally felt exactly like an oem clutch, but help 530whp and 411tq without issue.

Its all good man lol

OP if you go with a cheap *** xtd at least resurface your flywheel and install it properly. Also go with the unsprung disc as there are many cases where the springs pop out on the sprung versions. I have a feeling you're going to cheap out and get an xtd going off your screen name lol.

As for info on your actual turbo setup check FAQ sticky at the top.

@boosted what clutch went on your latest build?

just curious....could this possibly somehow be the issue with the knocking noise your trying to chase down

Its a xtd stage 4 unsprung 6 puck. I think it's the only cheap part on the whole build lol. I don't see how the clutch could possibly be making the noise I'm chasing. It shifts super smooth, nothing weird with clutch engagement or anything.

hmm but if the sound only happens when clutch is engaged......throw out bearings, etc can make noise at random times

Idk man I have a bad feeling it's the oem LSD making the noise. The only time I can duplicate the sound 100% of the time is when turning and unloading the drive train, any other time it's random. It's very distinct like someone is tapping the shift linkage with a hammer a couple times in a row. A like a gear missing teeth is all I can think of that would make that kind of noise.

The issue is obviously not the clutch its self but the break in meathod was not done correct. As mentioned previously, an Exedy stage 2 or clutch master FX400 are good units. The S2000's from LHT running 400 WHP with their supercharger packages run the Clutchmaster Fx400 Clutch.
