banjo bolt?
man i hate to ask this question, i looked up banjo in search and didnt really answer me so ill ask and hope to not get flamed
what is it, what does it do and can someone post up a pic so i know what im looking for and get a visual, (i learn better that way) thanks

it has many uses... the wastegate uses it as a vacuum, the new garrett gt series turbo uses them along with a fitting for the water lines, the supra TT uses it as a oil feed along with the line..

On the topic, is it important to "index" the banjo bolt so that the fuel flows straight into the fuel line? I always just screw it down and assume that the fuel flows around in those divits in the fuel filter.

Not important, look at the inside of the connection from the fuel filter and you'll see that the o-ring type thingie has a groove around the inside for fuel to flow through. Makes no difference.
