Bad Alternator?
Recently brought my turbo integra down to Chris Miller to get tuned. While on the dyno, the battery light would keep turning on after it hit about 8500rpm or so. The alternator was reading 18 volts. We took off the alt belt and If I remember correctly chris unconncted something and said when he did that it was at 11 volts. He also said to check ground wires going to the alternator. I actually brought a brand new altnerator back in october of last year but it was from advanced auto and not OEM. As I check everything over is there anything else I should look into? Im going back down in a few weeks but any suggestions would be greatful. Thanks guys!
He probably enabled the ELD. I had an alternator die on the dyno too from the high rpm. Those reman's suck. Data log the battery voltage at high rpm. It should stay around 14 volts.
Interesting. I've been having a similar issue for a couple of years except with used OEM alternators. Don't see the point in buying a new one because I keep killing the used ones in as little as 6 months. Pretty much all of them are low miles, good condition from a junkyard. My voltage doesn't go near that high though. Maxes out at about 15.5v rarely. Done a lot of troubleshooting and still haven't been able to figure it out.
