I also had a question about b20/b18 turbo differences. Someone told me that the sleeves on a b20 are much weaker than the sleeves on the b18. Here is a scenario: a 2000 B20Z w/8500 miles and a 1991 B18B w/130000 miles each with stock internals except eagle rods and arp wrist pins. Each engine is outfitted with a garrett t3/t4 intercooled turbo, running 9 lbs daily driven. Which engine would you feel safer having?

The B20 only has an advantage over the LS in terms of larger bores (more displacement).

Niether the B20 or the LS comes factory with Vtec cylinder heads. They are both non-Vtec engines. A B20Vec or LSVtec are engines that have been modified to use a Vtec head...not factory.

They are both oem sleeves (slightly different in material, design, and size) Both could be considered weak with high compression, high boost, bad tuning, etc.

Which engine would you feel safer having?
which ever one is tuned correctly

Ok, so the sleeves are different. Is either one stronger than the other? Does either one have a history of cracking under boost?

Ok... yeah, but the point I was trying to make was each one is identical, both tuned to perfection. I wanted peoples opionions on which they thought was most reliable and why. Or are both sleeves equally able to stand up to the same amount of boost. If so, what would be the weak point(s) of the each engine? I tried doing a search, but wasn't able to find any real good information.

either will be fine on something like 9psi. the B20 will probably help turbo spool a little faster and help a little low end torque. but i dont think the gains will be much up top.

there is alot of talk about the b20 sleeves being weaker. from what ive seen on H-T there are probably 4 times as many people with LS turbo's then b20's but ive seen more guys crack sleeves w/ b20's then LS's. so it may be true.

when deciding b20 vs. LS ask urself, is it worth the extra 600$ for the 84.5mm bore instead od 81mm? or should i just get a b18 and use the 600 to get sleeves. hummmmmmmmmm
