Default B18c5 + Full-race turbo kit, some Q's on driveability at low boost (60-1 or 60)

I just got my ITR swap in the del sol, it rips,, but nothing too surprising for my standards. one of my dreams of many years as well as most of us on this board, want to go turbo. This winter i can actually afford it and am going through with it.
--i want to start off slow to learn of course. (i have a 93 Rx7 with a garret GT66 single, so i am not new to boost) I want to buy the best, IMO the Full-race kit is dead sexy, strong, powerful, great componants. My choice between turbos are:
Garrett T3/T60-1 or Garrett T4/T04E 60 Trim Turbo I have a b18c5 in my car, and i plan to run 7-8 PSI at first,,, High CR on the mota dont wanna do anything crazy. How will it run with either of these turboes at low boost? Will there be lag for days? Will they even be halfway efficient at such low boost levels.
-- the kit will have 3in DP, the sooo sexy tubular mani, tial WG and BOV. Ill use a VAFC, 6BTM, FP,350-440cc injectors, FPR, greddy WB wannabe, and other misc tuning mods to add proper fuel. I may use an inlinepro headgasket to reduce the CR, but at 7-8 PSI its not nessecary. Ill score an EBC for better boost response. As for the VAFC, i may say screw all that crap and go AEM EMS ill see how it goes w/ the VAFC at first.
To all the people with honda turbo knowledge, what turbo should i go with and how will each perform? AND yes i plan to rebuild ASAP, i just want to get a handle on a turboed honda before i build it up. Ide rather blow up a stock motor than a $4-5k built one thanks!

what are your goals in end, with the stock motor i would go with the t3/t04e but with a built motor your gonna want more power..

goals... at first on the stock engine i would be happy with 250WHP, anything more is just a bonus. After i build her up, i think 15-18 PSI sounds very nice to me,,, whatever ammount of WHP 15-18 PSI yeilds is beyond me, but i know i dont want to be pushing 20 or more PSI... Well thats just what im thinking now, but like i said i wanna learn the turbo honda game before i crank the boost up.
I think on 7-8 PSI 250 WHP should be easily attainable, after all most stock ITR engines put down 175ish, so an extra 75hp should be within reason.
---- i dont want a small turbo with poor CFM, ide rather deal some some lag, but when 4k comes around its well worth the wait. I want this car to be fast in the 1/4 mile, turn good lap times at the track, and be street driven. I know how to set the suspension up, so thats not the issue right now. i'd rather buy a really nice bomb-proof turbo setup such as the full-race right off the bat. Rather than buying a rev-hard or Fmax and then having to go through and upgrade all the crap anyhow. that would be just a waste. Keep the replies comming! thanks.

your goal should be dictated by the whp you want not the psi you want to run...if you 400 or more the 60-1 will get you there alot easier..

i would like 400-450WHP built,,, but how will that 60-1 work when on the low 7-8 PSI range? I do not plan to stay that way by any means, but i am very curious and would like to know up front so i dont get all pissy when its running wierd and making jack for power. At low boost that is, from what ive read and seen the 60-1 is a badass turbo and is most likely going to be my choice!
- All i really would like to know right now is how its going to respond to low boost. If its going to be a waste, let me know now so i can start the build! If its going to moderate (250-275whp on low boost) excellent, i want to start off small. thanks

those older 60-1's are not too effiecent @ lower boost levels, thats why turbo's such as the sc61, etc are so popular now, they are more efficent @ lower boost levels while still having more power potential than the older 60-1's...just newer better technology. Personally out of those 2 turbo's i would go with the t3/to4e 60 trim .63ar, i ran that turbo on my stock b16a and made over 300whp with decent spool up, it will make over 400whp too if you want or when the times comes for your build just sell it and get somethign bettter at that time, but for lower boost IMO go with the t3/to4e over the 60-1

yeah, when built definatly looking for 400WHP. Just gonna tool around at low boost at first to get used to tuning at and tweaking stuff in.

the t3/04e's are bad *** at low boost and very nice at higher boost. the lag isnt even noticable. i have one with an .82 housing i might be selling for a bigger turbo soon. but trust me you can make some really great power on them .

what exactly is wrong with the revhard kit? ill be running revhard stage 2 kit with a built bottom end and VAFC. IMO i believe revhard is the best bang for the buck, i know many people that have ran stock bottom ends and untuned with just a 3" exhuast with drag radials that have run consistent 12's with the revhard. but oh well if u wana jump on the bandwagon and spend a arm and a leg thats ur decision. but hey wish u the best of luck with your set up!

Lol don't sound so bitter The Full-Race kit is a great deal because it includes the components that you will be upgrading to after you are limited by the inefficiencies of lesser "kits". There are people with $1k junkyard setups that run consistent 12's. Buy whatever you feel comfortable with.

Sofaking - heck you could even run the t3/t67 if you wanted. The bigger compressor wheel/housing may cause you to reach x psi slightly later, but the cfm's will still be there so all of these t3/tX turbos will make 200whp by essentially the same rpm (with a given turbine setup). Oh and just save yourself the hassle and start off with a Hondata system or some other programmable (like the AEM). You'll feel like you saved time and money in the end.

yeah, im going to go with AEM EMS for sure, no point in wasting time/money with the VAFC and whatnot.
-the reasons i want the full race over the revhard are as follows:
1)turbular manifold with wastegate mounted in a central location. Therefor it bleeds exhuast pressure from all 4 cylinders and not just from cyl 3&4 like a log style or revhards style manifold
2) Tial componants
3) 3 inch Dp
4)turbo that will make any ammount of HP i desire for the most part
5) Its the best IMO kit wise and therefor im all about it.
6) revhard 2600 vs Full-race 3800 you will spend more than 1200 upgrading that revhard kit and it still wont surpass the full-race.
Im not hating on revhard by any means, i have the money, so why not?

what alot of people dont know is that u can upgrade the revhard kit to a tubular manifold style for another chunk of change. only down fall is u have to dump ur A/C just for the mainfold but if ur going with the 3" down pipe then it wouldnt really matter. but believe me no bitterness here, i wish u the best of luck with ur set up.

i know of the tubular mani, but add that on top of the initial price of the revhard, and you still dont have a kit equivilant to the full-race and you in the mid $3k range already. Like i said, the full-race kit is totally best bang for the buck on a serious turbo build.

For record, still not hating on revhard, just expressing my reasoning.

go with the full-race kit. i had a drag 3 kit with a 60 trim t3/t4 and sold it and got the full-race kit. i haven't fully installed everything due to fabricating some brackets for little **** that is easier to do with the engine bay a little more open, and i am waiting for my aem ems. good luck with it though and you should definitely go full-race. just my two cents though.

kinda leaning towards the t3/04e for now, minimal lag is always a great thing.

How about a stock gsr motor with full race turbo kit?...in terms of driveability @ low bost(5-9psi). Looking for 220whp.

we have a 96 civic EX coupe with a 100% stock GSR motor (stock head gasket, stock intake manifold, stock cams, stock ignition STOCK) that runs 11.4 consistently

Boosted hybrid has a stock bottom end GSR with a cometic head gasket and JG intake manifold at 11 psi did 354 with a very conservative tune

full driveability. the kits are designed to provide the best in driveability on true street cars.

What kind of fuel management unit, injector size would you recommend? Is it possible to get the a/c manifold with the kit? Will the blow off valve become an issue since it is located on the front mount intercooler? It snows where I live not to mention the weather changes in New England...gopats! Sorry, I had to!

I recommend Hondata with 72lb/hr injectors. We do make an AC kit which is entirely different than the non-AC kit. the BOV is moved to the charge pipe as there is simply not enough room to put it anywhere else on an AC equiped car

if you have any questions just give us a call at the shop. thanks
