B18C5 or B20/VTEC with JRSC
Currently i have a B18C5 in my hatch and a JRSC waiting to be installed. But i also have a stock B20B engine.
Should i give B20/VTEC JRSC a try or is it just a waste of money and time?
I'm not sure if i gain anything over the B18C5

if i was in your position, i would sell the supercharger, sell the C5 block, sell the b20 head, sleeve the block, get pistons, get rods, get hondata, buy a full-race turbo kit, and make it an over 500whp Boosted Beast

I wouldnt supercharge either one, but if your stuck on that, than just keep the c5, it should produce similar of not better results, but with higher compression and honda oem reliability. No need to complicate things.

Re: B18C5 or B20/VTEC with JRSC (Andre)
Why is it that anytime someone ask a question about any kind of set-up about a SC they are always told, sell it & get a turbo? Don't get me wrong, I know the awsome power a turbo is well capable of. But whats the use in 500 WHP on the street? I've driven both turbo & SC & they both have there place. Heck, for that matter I drove a friends EG turbo with 300 to 320 WHP & it was almost uncontrolable even with good suspension. But if this guy wants to sell his SC I might be interested. But to answer this guys question, I think you have a good set-up. Stick with it & spend $ on some real good tuning.

i would do the the b20vtec jrsc for max power/torque
but in the end because it would be simpler (at least for me since ive never built a b20-ls/vtec) i would jus tthe the b18c5
it very easy to get up to the 240+ whp range with a jrsc b18c5... there are to guys on here that have done it... and crvrx (i think thats his name on the forum) made good numbers with his b20vtec before the intercool....
but they all can explain there own setups better than i can.

not to flame or anything... but i dont know what the point is in saying to get rid of the jrsc if the person obviously is inerested in supercharging it... he was simply asking which b series setup would be better with a jrsc... not to have people say "get rid of it, go turbo! Turbo ownz".
i dont know......could be just me.
this will help

I'd sell off the B20 and with that money get into a Hondata system, and a larger TB. Both have been proven to make good gains on any supercharged setup.
I can see an easy 230whp with a jrsc/ITR setup, low-mid 13's on the quarter (if properly prepped for drag), and a highly competitive Solo racer. Plus, the sound of the pissed off buzzsaw coming from the blower will make any Mustang scratch their heads in confusion as you blow past them.

I was just stating my opinion and if i was in his position what i would do. But it really all depend on him and what he is looking for. is he looking for overall power or is he looking for constant power. I am always looking for overall power, but if i was doing autocross, i would definatly get a SC.

do this...
keep the c5, supercharge it.. some fuel work and up the boost..
it woudl be much simpler than doing a crvtec.. theres lots of complications along the way.. plus the c5 is one hell of an engine.. 9000 rpm and supercharged.. holy $%*#!!

Build the B20Vtec, then supercharge it. The longer stroke will make more TQ.
My set up makes over 200 ft lbs at 3000 rpms, It's a Sleeved B20 with a stock type R head.
It pulls hard all the way to 9K , with no lag and instant thottle response. My boost peaks at 8.2 psi .
Oh, I almost forgot , go turbo!

Re: B18C5 or B20/VTEC with JRSC (BlueHatch00)
why would you want to sleeve the B20 block and slap on the ITR head? it's just plain dumb IMO. the ITR block was built nearly perfect from the factory. if you're gonna sleeve anytime in the future, make damn sure that you're sleeving the ITR block. you can always change the bore size for a bit more tq gain and save yourself from having the issues SOME people have with frankenstin combos. or do what inspyral said, put the B20 crank in and modify the oil squirters and there you go, longer stroke.

Because you'll get more $$$ for the c5 block than you would for the b20. if i had the chance to sleeve either the b20 or the c5, for sure i would go for the c5, but if i could sell it and use the $$$ that I made off of it to build the other, then i would sell the c5. the advantage of the c5 is the oil squirters and the girdle, but the advantage of the b20 is the crank. putting the crank into the c5 is a good idea, but a lot of work.

Like I said above, sell the B20, and Hondata the B18C5. Quick, easy, and a hell of a setup.
Then turbo the B20 and swap it out for Drag events.
