B18c Boosted....Need help with gear ratios
I have a 95 eg coupe, it has a Jdm gsr B18c, and it is boosted and built. This is my first thread so i dont know how much info someone needs to help me......but my problem is i am trying to figure out what is a good gear ratio to run on a turboed car. I was told that short gears are great for drag racing, but then i was also told that since im boosted i should run longer gears.....I need a more offical answer and alot more than a guess,,,i need someone with knowledge to help me out here. Im looking at final gear ratios by the way. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

Ls final drive just helps on the highway if I'm not mistaken. But I don't see how some racers see 130-14mph at the track, I assume there driving into 5th at that point

A LS final drive affects all gears and will keep you gear longer in all gears vs a GSR final gear.

Interesting, I didn't know that. Now I'm wondering if I should switch mine out since I'm going to do a semi rebuild + adding an LSD. Yes my car driven mostly, but will adding a ls final decrease the vehicle acceleration between gears? Damn I just stole this topic and asked some basic questions

A 500 hp civic with a gsr tranny will be quicker than the exact same 500 hp civic with a ls tranny due to the shorter gearing.
Gearing isnt an issue if you are spinning every gear anyways. A longer 4th gear (LS FD) is nice when you are hitting your rev cut before the line.

OP. Keep the GS-R gearing and go have a good time.
So it seems that for boost i should use an ls final drive and for the all motor racers they use short gears......since i stay in each gear longer i retain my boost longer instead of loosing it everytime i shift when the blow off valve realeases the pressure.......is this what everyone has agrreed on for the most part?? LS FINAL DRIVE, GOOD FOR ME.....GSR FINAL DRIVE, NOT AS GOOD FOR ME??
honestly just keep it simple and keep the gsr tranny and fd.
I've seen some guys use the 4.2 LS fd in their drag cars mainly for trying to get 3-5mph more on their top speed in 4th.

Just stay with stock GS-R FINAL DRIVE. Last time I'll reiterate it, then you're on your own on that one..

I would not bother swapping anything. The GSR is a great tranny IMO!!!
If it ain't broke don't fix it!!!
wanted to know about the final drive because i wanted to have my fastest possible time for a quarter mile......plus my tranny is messed up and needs new sycros so i was going to do a rebuild but i wanted to make sure i made the right choice b4 i did it.
Then stay stock GS-R and don't overthink..
