Which one of these would be better for turbo app. w/ stock internals. i want around 250 wheel hp running hondata 2b.
so which would be better and why??(also, would B18B turbo be cheaper than turbo B16???)

Default Re: B18B or B16 (jvithayapun)

I have had both. I like the b18b because it made alot of torque, but it took lots of psi to make hp. This is mainly due to the poorly flowing head design, including the cams and intake manifold. If you were to perhaps get crower turbo cams, new intake manifold and turbo port work done, then the LS would be a super engine to make hp and torque with ease.

I also had a b16a in my hatch. I made 300whp on 10lbs stock internals. There was lack of torque, but hp was super easy to make. This is due to the excellently engineered head design from honda. I like the fact that i have more of a powerband to rev out too, compared to the LS block. I also have more of a powerband with the b16a, 1500rpm more infact. Putting the b16 and b18b head to head, the performance of the engines will be about the same. Case in point i ran high 11's on slicks with my stock block b16a on 14lbs, c16 race gas. When i ran my b18b in my hatch stock block i was running 20lbs on stock internals on c16 race gas and ran 12.2 on slicks. The performance levels were fairly similar. When it comes down to the best engine between the two, the b16a is by far. Perfect rod/piston ratio, beefier engine design and in general better engineered engine. This all translates to a more reliable, more durable engine when it comes to boost. Choice is yours, but i have went back to a built b16a and dont regret it at all.
