You can build a boost leak tester for like 10 bucks. It will be your best friend in the world of forced induction. Ive made more then a few for people. Heres what you will need,

A 3inch pvc pipe end cap.
Air hose connector
3 inch coupler (the ones from autozone work fine)

What you do is drill and tap the pvc cap and put in the air hose connector (a pipe thread tap works the best as its tapered so you lower your chance of the connector leaking). Then you put the coupler around the cap and take off your intake filter from the turbo. Put on the pvc cap and clamp it down. Use an air compressor and set the regulator to whatever your max boost is and plug it into the connector on the cap and turn on your compressor. Any boost leaks will go "SSSSSSSSSSS" they will be hard to miss and easy to find. It will become your best friend if you are constantly having problems with leaks.

Spray soapy water on all your couplers while using ^said boost leak tester and it will make it real easy to find your issue.

You would rather suck in soapy water? Brake clean doesnt hurt anything. Its like spraying starter fluid.

Soapy water is fine to suck in... it will clean the inside of the engine a bit to.

It will get all the oil out of your charge pipes as well.

The method I explained to him doesn't require a boost leak tester. that's what the brake clean is for. If you put a plate over the turbo while the car is running. And it doesnt die, spray some brake clean around and the boost leak will suck in brake clean, changing the vehicles idle, and show where the boost leak is.

x2.....this trick also works for N/A cars by putting your hand over the throttle body to troubleshoot for vacuum leaks..

Yeah, I dont see my engine bay EVER being clean like that. The only way thats gonna happen is if I convert my car to my weekend/track car only and not a DD. Till then, it can stay the way it is. Gotta prepare for the winter, gonna slap the winters wheels in November lol!

Yea i know but he's got an s2k that we are going to build a nasty turbo setup on that. As a small payback (and not yet completed payback) I already ported his TB and next will be intake mani and the head but that one will be a fun build as well.

Just switched around some stuff and now I get full boost (20ish psi) right around 6400 rpm. It was definitely a boost leak. It breaks traction through the top half of 1st, 2nd, and a bit in third. Checked my AFR (Neptune RTP) and it's not PERFECT but it's enough to play with for awhile while I get my traction bars installed. Now I want to know what it actually puts down.

Well after tune car made 305whp on a DynoJet 224xLC on 11lbs of boost. Not bad... Going to retune again here in a couple weeks to push a little more out of her meanwhile I am going to be building a GSR/B20 block for future power
