Default b16a or b18b

what would be a better platform? both cost the same.

im hoping for 300-350whp with a sc34... keeping the block stock. which engine would be better, and why?

prolly not gonna make much over 300 with the sc34 on a stock block but either way, go with the b18b, much better motor if you're keeping it stock and will produce much better numbers.
oh ya, if you just do a search..this topic has been beaten to death

For making that much on stock block i would go with a vtec motor, b16a if you can't afford a b18c1. Theres no reason you couldn't make those numbers with an sc34.

Yeah, with an sc 34 I would go with the LS. The 34 has a .48 A/R turbine right? which is a little short for a b16's high revs. With a stock block on the LS I would shoot for 250-275 with the SC34.

For 300-350. it would be alot easier to make that with an sc34...61 would be better though.vtec motor would get you there evven though im not a fan of them.

well if you look at the 2 people who just had theirs tuned .. stock LS w/ sc34 they made between 270-300 @14-16psi. and one of them blew their motor 5 minutes after the dyno. i wouldn't say its the most efficient turbo for making 300hp on a stock motor. the LS will produce much better hp/tq numbers than a b16 - review some dyno's and compare numbers for yourself

b16 will make better hp than an b18, but all around i like the b18 better becuase they come dime a dozen when you blow them up.

b18 will make tons more torque.

The b16 will have the capability of more hp, but most definitely not torque. Although I have never had stock b16 cams (I have a itr head/ctr cams on a b16 block), I absolutely love the powerband. I hit my peak tq at full boost (3800rpm and it stays flat all the way to 8200+). It really makes for a large rpm range in which the car just MOVES. In order to pass a car quickly, I can drop it @65 in fifth and not only pull away, but probably make somone next to me think I dropped it down a gear or two...
In my personal opinion I think a b18b is a less expensive proposition, and it has a bit different of a personality, and a lot more tq. Though in order for a b18a/b to make peak hp like the b16/b18c, it needs some more head work and the ability to rev higher/breath more on top.

Blowing the motor has nothing to do with the turbo, an sc34 is plenty effecient @ 300whp. I agree with you on the tq thing but not the hp, the b16 will produce better hp. I still think if your shooting for 350ish on stock engine the b16a is a better choice than a b18b (although it will lack tq)

alot of people throw off a horse power number but i think tq number is more important than the hp number. Basically i chose the B18b because i would rather have 275whp and 250tq than 300whp and 200 tq.

see, I am running a b16 turbo in my 91 integra, but when that block blows, if it blows, then i am just gonna swap on my LS bottom end...theres a lot more **** you can do with a vtec motor.

Go with the b18b. Youll make much better torque numbers withe the b18b, and if you blwo it in the future there easier to come by. Theres plenty of ppl on here making 275whp on stock block b18bs @9-10psi.
