B16 vs B18 differences
Hey guys i have a turboed B16a and now am going the B18c route....wanted to know what are the parts that these engine share or differ from.
Similar parts:
1- head gasket?
2- oil pan?
3- Distributor?
4- Spark plug wires?
5- flywheel/clutch?
Different parts:
1- timing belt?
2- oil pick up?
in general i need hints and points on where/what i need to change to make the swap work? my b16 was perfect running until some incident happened and now am going the B18 route....i will re-use the B16 head and B16 (S4C) tranny and Exedy twin plate i have on my B16 setup. what do i look to get to get this B18 work without any missing parts?
In general what i can i re-use and not re-use?

Similar parts:
1- head gasket? Yes
2- oil pan? Yes
3- Distributor? NO, it has a different mounting ears.
4- Spark plug wires? YES
5- flywheel/clutch? This depends on the trans. If you use the same trans as on the b16, then it should be the same, if using a GSR, you will have to check the size of the splines.
Different parts:
1- timing belt? Same as b16
2- oil pick up?
I personally would not reuse the headgasket, or timing belt. You can reuse everything else though if it is in good working order.

Yes you are right about the distributor, they are the same, that was my fault.
I will have to double check on the timing belt, I swear mines from a GSR but I will have to look again. If so, I got the wrong one lol.

Re: B16 vs B18 differences
Good deal of bad information in this thread already. Here is what you need to know:
-Oil pan MUST BE GSR, the girdle will not allow you to use a b16a oil pan
-Dizzy is same, guts are all interchangeable, just make sure it was a VTEC dizzy to start with and meet your specific OBD1, OBD2, OBD0 requirements
- Timing belt MUST BE GSR, block is taller and is longer than the b16a
- Trans, clutch, ect combo is fine all b-seres are the same...Hydro to hydro, cable to cable, but they all will bolt up fine to the block, just on you if you are doing a cable system or hydrolic.
-HG is the same, 81mm bore on both b16a and GSR, but obvioulsy get a new one.
-Water pump is same, I THINK, but oil pump may be different, I cant remember
-Timing belt tensioner is same
Hope this helps.

i used to have a GSR oil pump on my b16 and was using a b16 timing belt, so i think the oil pumps number of teeth is the same on both b16a and b18c. i belive the waterpump differs maybe

Re: B16 vs B18 differences
Hmmm, well maybe that has something to do with which oil pump and water pump you use, im not sure if the teeth vary between pumps, but I know I got a b16a belt on accidnet and my builder had to send back to get the GSR belt. Reguardless of anything, the GSR block is taller and it just makes sense to use the belt from the shortblock you have in the car.
