b16 turbo, white smoking (new videos)
Hey!
B16 turbo smoking heavy white smoke on idle and on throttle. Had a post about the same problem 3 weeks ago.
What i've done since the last thread is:
Took the engine apart and changed:
-Piston rings on third piston (second ring broken) top rings gaped to 0.045mm
-Had the machine shop check the valve guides and seals (Seals perfect)
-Had an oil restrictor mounted on the turbo
-Fixed an AN12 oil return
-Had an endyn catch can setup mounted
-New head gasket with a copper layer
Problems i've still got:
-Heavy white smoking on idle and throttle
-High PCV pressure (smoking badly under the hood, even after i turned my ignition off)
-Oil in my exhaust ports on the head
-ECU giving me error code 16 (Injector error) runs very bad, have to change spark plugs every 30min... they are really DARK!
Engine setup:
wiesco pistons
eagle beams
oem headgasket
supertech valve guides and seals
turbonetics turbo with 0.063" oil restrictor
b18c6 camshafts
skunk2 IM
70mm throttle
AN12 return from turbo
Any suggestions what can be wrong?
br, jesper

Ok well white smoke is burning coolant. Grey to blueish smoke is oil burning. Did you have the head checked for flatness? If the head is not true the head gasket will not seal.
Are you sure you put the rings in correctly with a fresh hone and then broke them in?
Do you have the Endyn catch can vented to atmosphere or going back into the intake? Venting it atmosphere is best.
Are you running the correct injectors and is the setup tuned?
See if the turbo oil seals are blown. If it is a China turbo this is highly possible.

Re: b16 turbo, white smoking
The head is fine, it was milled just before i put the head back on. And tourqed down to 78lbs. It's not burning water, more likely it's steaming up the oil and putting out a nice clude for me. But it still dosen't explain the oil in the exhaust port on the head?
And yes i'm sure i'm running the right injectors, i've been running the over 1 year(the worked perfect 3 weeks ago)

150psi across all pistons on the comp test. Leak down 6% on all cylinders... What have i missed, i think it's the valve seals but the workshop dont.

Re: b16 turbo, white smoking
so you took the motor apart and only replaced the rings in 1 cylinder? why would you do such a rediculous thing?
What is your c/r? 150 psi is pretty damn low, with stock 10:1 c/r you should see 200+ psi, I would expect 150 psi out of my 8.5:1 c/r motor.
Sounds like you have leaky rings and or valve seals.
Time too take it back apart again, and rebuild it the right way, all new rings, new HG, and new valve seals, bet it doesn't smoke then....

I took the engine apart this morning and i found oil on my intake valves so i guess it's my valve guides and seals that my machine shop replaced and told me was good!...
