b16 turbo setup questions
So I am putting together a b16a right now for my ef shell and I think I am leaning towards a turbo setup.. Wasn't sure if I should put this in the NA forum or in here because I want to start it as a NA setup and get the car running asap, and then down the line be able to slap on a turbo.
I've seen some turbo builds that have just stock block/head and internals with a turbo, so I'm wondering if that's the way to go for a goal of 250 to 300 whp. I'd like to have around a 11/12 second 1/4 mile, and still be able to have this reliable enough to DD and track for fun.
I guess my real question is what changes should I make to my shopping list of parts for going from a planned high compression b16 to a b16 turbo?
I was going to go with a 82mm bore block, rs ctr pistons, stock rods, head with crower valves/springs/retainers, and most likely skunk2 series 2 cams.
Do i need to go forged rods/pistons for my power goal? Or are the stock rods fine? Anything else I should be looking at changing to build an engine ready for a turbo?

If you run an 82mm bore stock block on boost, you'll probably crack a sleeve. At most, 81,5mm on stock sleeves IF you want to turbo it. This is especially true for a high compression setup (which would be more likely to knock under load and boost).
This isn't to say it can't be done, but you'll need to run 81,5mm. Stock internal engines can be safely pushed into the mid 300whp range, but it depends on the fuel type...some have gone much further with e85 and race fuel.

if youre doing a rebuilt why in hell not use the correct forced induction internals. the cams are not needed for your goal. just a dual cam and boost with a tough clutch

Yes I think i'll be going with 81.5mm bore now.. Would you recommend getting the block sleeved for my power goal? I'm getting it rebuilt next week and my friend can get it sleeved for a pretty good price.

Sleeving isn't necessary unless you're planning to make mid 450-500+whp. A set of forged pistons and Eagle rods would even be overkill for your goals. A simple 81.5mm stock piston/stock rod combo with a good tune will make 300whp all day, every day. There's no need to complicate things

Thanks for the advice! I'm building an engine from a bare block up so that's why I was thinking maybe I should just get forged internals since I would have to buy pistons/rods anyways but I will start looking for a set of stock rods/pistons now.

If your budget allows, there's no harm in running forged internals, but it isn't required for your goals.
350whp+ would be the point at which I'd suggest building it (forged piston/rod, stock sleeve), but again it depends on a lot of factors
