Default B16 ***-end needs more junk in the trunk

So i want to build a hybrid out of my b16 with either a LS block or a b20 block. Which ever i decide on i am going to sleeve it and build it tough so the whole b20 week sleeve argument is void. The problem i am seeing is that i don't know the differences between the all of the b18a's and b's and know even less about the b20 line. I am leaning towards a 86mm b20 but i don't know. I just need to know the ideal model b20?? and b18?? and why.

The other thing is I plan on running about 350ish hp @ about 15-18psi and am wondering if i should run 9.5/1 compression instead of the usual 9.0/1 for a little better bottom end and less boost. This is a street car only so a broad bower band is what i am looking for instead of a laggy 500+ dyno *****. Lets here it boys thanks

an 86mm bseries is unrealistic on a boosted application...go with something with thicker walls and plus you will have the extra insurance to rebuild if something goes wrong you dont need to resleeve. also assuming your b16 is fine why would you change it especially in a boosted application...dont waste your money just build the b16 and boost it..imo the b16s are very good motors.

but to answer your question the ls block and the b20 block wont make a difference in your application the b20 essentially only has a larger bore which doesnt matter since you will be sleeving. like i said before boost the b16

I don't know what the title means but I did read the post. imo the b20 would make a nice motor for you. you are looking for a motor that will make good torque and can build boost quickly.

i had a 91 integra ls and i bought a repair manual. the repair manual stated not to bore out the block because of the machine shops not doing something i forget what but all i remember is your not supposed to do it.

I am already boosted on a fully built sleeved b16 i just want something with more torque as the b16 lives up to its alias as the torque-less wonder. I thought you could sleeve a b20 out to 87mm max if that isn't the case it would make sense for me just to sleeve a b18 to 84mm and call it a day. The ? still to be answered is what are the differences between the different b18's I know about the c1 and c5 but what would be the ideal b18 (b18a1, b18b1,b18??) for a hybrid. I also would like to know the same about the b20's as i think there are a few.

As for the thread title.... whatever

The 87mm is definitely all motor only. The sealing area of the head gasket is to small for boost. The b18a&b,b18c1&5,and the b20b&z are all the same height.Any off these will give you more torque than the b16.The 18c's are the cleanest setup to use your vtec head on,but you will pay about $400 more than the b18a&b for the block. With the b18a&b or b20 you will need an external oil line for the head (ls/vtec).

yeah or you could bore to 84mm i think that puts you at 1.8L and you could stroke it a little to get it aroun 2L just dont go too big with the stroker..

but like i said before it wouldnt matter if you used a b18 or a b20 block since you are sleeving but it might be smarter to spring for the b18c1 bottom end nearly the same cost as if you were to use a golden eagle lsvtec kit on the others the b18c1 has oil squirters a better rod/stroke ratio and i believe it has a block girdle. the b18b and b20 have a slightly worse r/s ratio (not a huge deal) no girdle (bigger deal imo) and no oil squirters..i think its kind of a matter of opinion but the ls and b20 motors should make slightly more torque but i see the b18c1 as a much better motor.

when you say they have worse r/s ratios you mean to say that you have a shitty opinion.

You also meant to say that the r/s ratio just creates more torque and moves the powerband down on the rpm range. yep, i'm sure you didn't mean to say it has a worse r/s ratio, yep.

i dont really think it has a "Worse" r/s ratio, poor choice of words on my part ...i would definately not base my choice on just r/s ratio it just puts a little more stress on the engine but it is minimal in my opinion which is why i said (not a big deal) and you dont have to be such a smart *** about it either yes it will make a little more torque but i would chose the b18c1 because of the reasons i said before. the torque increas is minimum and the r/s ratio is minimum so who cares the difference is negligable imo if r/s ratio wasnt a big deal why dont more people run stroker kits? but the difference in strokes of the ls and gsr isnt a huge difference.

depends on what you want..I THINK in a boosted app. gsr is better.
