It depends on how much money you want to spend and what your horsepower goals are. You can make 400whp on a built D series if you do it right and it will cost less then buying a b series and starting from ground up.

after doing the GSR Swap, re-building, then going turbo, I wish I would have just kept the SOHC and built the **** out of it. I blow it up, no problem, d blocks are a dime a dozen....

swaping and going all motor will be FAR easier. LS/Vtec well built and done correctly would still be easier. A turbo anything would be far more difficult. I'm not saying its that hard, but by comparisson it is. I personally have a built SOHC turbo and am now building it more. 250-300whp is easily achieved. I did it at 9psi untuned on a v-afc Dont let the potential fool you though, its a much more maintenence required project than you could possibly imagine. If you have no motor building experience or turbo experience, id say get a swap, learn that or try and build an ls/vtec. If you choose not to heed the risks of this car becoming your life, Welcome brother to the dark side, just deposit your pay checks at the machine shop. Good luck man!

I would sawp a b-series in and turbo it, then build later.

a stock LS or GSR motor can put out close to 300 hp and be fine

I may get flamed by all the SOHC'ers out there but...

using a SOHC over a B-series is like bring a knife to a gun fight.

my opinion

for the price of a b16 swap (2500ish) you could do alot to a sohc... and crank up the boost.
and if it blows, get a new one. theyre cheap..

i say build and boost.
its cooler to beat someone with a 1.6 liter anyway.
what are your hp goals?

I dont believe he mentioned a B16 for anything other then a head if he was going to LS/Vtec. And its cooler to beat someone w/ a 1.6 liter????? Is that also your excuse when you lose? "man i only have 1.6l engine, how was i supposed to win?"

I stick w/ my LS or LS/Vtec Vote. Which ever you can afford.

the ls or ls/vtec will still need a turbo anyways. im also trying to decide myself if i should swap in a d series or build my sohc for more boost. i kinda like the idea of throwing in a b18 and slaping a turbo on that. it might be less of a headache than building the sohc. which would be more reliable at 250-300 horsepower...a built sohc or a stock b18?

so what i undestand is that i can put out big whp with my sohc and also with a b swap

2500 i can pretty much get my bottom end build and may be 1000 for fuel management and ill be able to rock 25psi ( if turbo is capable) now
if i get b swap with parts, install and makein it run good will be around 3000

now 25psi in sohc will need lots of mantenance but im just planing to boost 25 when needed other wise it will be 15 daily driver

Ill let you know in a few weeks what 15psi on a built d series is like. We are looking to be in the 350whp range. Its gonna be fun.

Well when stock dohc motors make the same if not more than sohc motors (there will always be exceptions so don't be pissy ) what would you call it?

not to mention the torque aspect etc etc.

sohc's are cheap as hell though, no denying that fact. but who wants to swap motors every few months?
