Asking the pro's?
I've heard alot of people that say they use stock rings? Instead of total seal, How is this possible? I mean the rings are usually the first thing to go on a turbo motor aren't they?
Reason I am asking is cuz I have a fully built b16 w/ benson sleeves, arias pistons 9:1, total seal rings and crower rods w/ a micropolished crank...
The motor isn't in the car because I am waiting to purchase a stand alone.. hence my other post..
but my question is while I have the motor out should I change the rings now? or go ahead and use the rings that are in there?

I've personally built several f/i motors using stock rings. They don't seat as fast, but once they do, they are plenty durable and seal adequately. If you're not worried about longevity, Federal Mogul rings seat very quickly, seal pretty well, but don't last too long. My experience with Total Seals were that they did not seat fast, and they are a bitch to seat at all. Anyway, hope that helps

You're meaning the break in period of the motor right, it has to be driven around longer to allow them to seat, right?

VaproTrail, let me ask you a question then. What would do when you use JE Pistons, since the grooves for the ring are too small for stock rings? have you had any experience or luck with making them larger to use a stock ring on a JE Piston?

remove the (no seal)total seal rings while the motor is out.these rings are junk.
i have already been through this.i put arias in my car and they seated instantly
factorys work great, and je's are good to.heed my warning!

I did not know that arias made rings...
I appreciate it..looks like I'll take em out..think I'll go w/ arias since that is the piston setup being used..
