ARP head studs
Guys, i was wondering if i needed to buy ARP head studs for a 96 GSR motor with a fully built head, 9,000 rpm redline and 75-100 shot nitrous. Can i just run stock head bolts instead of ARP head bolts cause they are going to cost me 145 dollars...This is for my little brothers 96 EK....thanks for any info

Re: ARP head studs (CM-R)
That would probalby be the best way to go. Chances are it will get pulled for one reason are another, and you will be stuck buying another set, if you go OEM. Like mentioned above, they are re-useable, and will pay for themselves....

These should be torqued to 85 ft/lbs with oil lube on the threads right.
Some say 82ft/lbs but the instructions say 85ft/lbs!

Re: ARP head studs (crxhybrid1320)
Different people will give u different torque specs for the arp studs. What's worked for me the best has been using the arp moly lube torqued down to 82ft-lbs. Paul

Re: ARP head studs (crxhybrid1320)
I don't know the exact specs offhand of what arp tells u too torque too, but i like to torque them down a little more to make sure i dont get a headgasket leak. Paul

Re: ARP head studs (TurboD16Z6)
So if it says to do it 85 with oil then i should probably do it like 88-90 ft/lbs to be safe.
I always add some ft/lbs just because torque wrenches are not exact!

Re: ARP head studs (crxhybrid1320)
Yes, exactly, torque wrenches are not 100% accurate. 85ft-lbs with oil is about equivalent to 75ft-lbs with molylube. so 88-90ft-lbs with oil should be fine. Paul

Re: ARP head studs (TurboD16Z6)
Yea I dont remember what i lubed mine with but i know its leaking. Its either the cometic gasket or the torque. Im going to replace the gasket with the OEM and re-check the deck of the block and retorque the arp head studs. They can be reused right. Maybe you can answer my question about ring gapping.

Re: ARP head studs (CM-R)
When u pull the head, u don't have to replace the head bolts but it would be a really good idea. The stock head bolts are supposedly stretched when u pull them and u won't get the right torque specs back on them. Paul
