they are known as head studs, not head bolts,,,, the arp's are different from stock in that the studs are hand screwed into the block, then the head is placed on, then the bolts are tourqued down,,, this supposedly helps secure the head better than stock headsteads by dispersing the pressure better from the nuts on the headstuds,,, in a high boost application i would use the arp's or the AEBS ones i hear they are supposed to be better, but then again arp is used in every major sanctioning body for racing pretty much,,,,,,i would put arp's on anything going over 15 psi,,i got 10 psi from stock headstuds all the time, and i even used them twice,,, with a drag gen 3 kit on a 98 gsr, hondata 2b, 550cc injectors 9psi all day,12.80 @ 110, (in an 93 si hatch)

i went on http://www.arp-bolts.com site, and they have both, head studs and head bolts. they ARE NOT the same thing. so i am just confuse on what to get, so if i get the studs, i dont need the bolts right? and if i use the bolts, i dont need the studs?

im currently going to run a mini me setup with a y8 head and z6 block. confirm me that its going to work, but with the parts #, y motor and z motor uses different studs and bolts. so what would i get it for? do i get it for the head or for the block? and if im going turbo, what do i need, studs or bolts? whats the difference? i know one is bolts and one is studs. thanks.

i was faced with this same dilemma. my built block is a z6 and i have a d16y8 motor in my car now. i was going to reuse the head but numerous people told me that it won't work because the headbolt lengths are different or something of that nature. then somone told me that if i use ARP's then it wouldn't matter. THEN AGAIN i heard that it still won't work, and also u can't use y8 studs in a z6 block or vice versa or some crap. i just gave up since i couldn't get a clear and certain answer and bought a z6 head. I even called ARP but they said i need to get the thread size, etc.

i did do a search, not much people have it done.. and its no one really talks about it.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by ek9vboi &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">ahem. here some help for you guys. you should get the z6 headbolt. it will work becasue in one of the h-t threads i was checking out, a guy said that he used z6 bolts and it fits. do some research on it, you will be surprised on what u find</TD></TR></TABLE>

so you're saying the y8 head will work with the z6 bolts with z6 bottom? my friend had the same problem when he did a mini me swap y8 head on a6 block but he said the y8 head bolts are too short.

Head studs &gt; head bolts

Head studs torque more evenly and consistent. They are reusable, and make it easier to align the head.

another benefit of head studs is that you are able to utilize all the thread in the block for the stud, giving it extra strength over a bolt.

I don't believe ARP makes head "bolts" for Honda engines, they do make them for domestics however. It is to my understanding that the only thing they offer is head studs, which make it much easier to install the head on the block IMO. If you are dead set on getting head "bolts" for a Honda engine, check out AEBS. They are a bit more expensive, but you get what you pay for.

I think only one side fits, and if I had to guess it's the side that gets fat right after the threads.
