searched but couldnt find the correct info i am looking for.
have a motor im building for a customer.
ring gap suggests:
top ring: 0.0067
2nd ring: 0.0061
which multiplied by 3.189 =
top: .021
2nd: .019
when i gaped the rings straight out the box the top ring was already at .022.
didnt even bother gaping the 2nd ring. is this typical of arias to have their **** pre gaped straight out the box?? need to know so i can send em back or install them.
shooting for 480/500ish hp btw.

ill probably just do that. im going to measure the 2nd ones tomorrow and if they are within spec ill run em. but im just scared something may be a problem later on.
I ran into this once with JE pistons and rings. I asked them about it, and they said sometimes the production runs can vary. I asked about ordering another set of rings, and he said it could be the same run with same results. If I remember correctly it was something like .024" and .022". I just made the rings match. but that was the minimum I could achieve. No problems running those gaps though.

ive been having this issue a lot over the past few years in my dealings with all motor setups. there is always a ring who's gap is too big right out of the box.
for you, there is nothing wrong with .022 on the top ring. even the rest of the rings to match the gap of that one. for the second ring go a bit bigger, maybe .024/.025. it wont smoke or blow oil with those gaps.
my 84.5mm gsr is at .023/.026 and it doesnt consume any oil even with ptw way up around .005+.
you are good if you ask me, carry on lol

What I would target would be
3.189 x .0060 = .019" top
3.189 x .0065 = .020" ~.021" second
All of the ring packs I've used from CP or Wiseco had the second ring gapped large out of the box. But you are saying the top ring is gapped big too. I think Tepid is right. I suspect your bore might be bigger than you think. Measure the bore and measure the unfiled second rings.
