Default Apexi Electronics AVC Type-R Boost Controller

I was looking into boost controllers and I saw that the Apexi AVC Type-R Boost Controller has features like gear and rpm dependent boost settings. Does anyone have this boost controller and if so how do you like it? Also, how does it know which gear you are in? Does it guess based on speed or is it hooked up to both speed and rpm sensors? Is it easy to set up? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I have hear the gear dependant boost is a PITA to setup but nice if you finally get it working.

Had the AVCR Boost Controller, and the Gear Dependant Boost Controll is really not that hard to setup. There is an extremly good write up by Blown90Hatch here:

i got it I like it. More of a ricer toy for me to play with when I am driving then anything else. I thought I would use it more then I do but I could have gotten away a lot cheaper just using my aem ems as a boost controller.

Yes you can do this with the AVC-R. it has two "profiles" [A] and B and in each you can use a switch to add "duty" to the duty map to add boost when the button is pressed.
