Default anyone using mesh screen (instead of filter) for turbo..?

hey guys, i got a drag 4 kit on my accord and there's absolutely no space for a normal filter... i'm waiting for this custom small/angled k&n filter to come in... -i've heard different things like using mesh screen from home depot is OK (keeps the rocks out)... some say relocate the battery and get a filter... some i think don't use anything at all... right now i got a mesh screen on there cause i think it's better than nothing... what's the verdict on this..? and what's everyone else using..?

I've been using a meshed screen for a year on my RevHard Stage 2 Kit with no problems.

use 2 metal screen and a piece of cloth or old t-shirt in between, then lube the cloth with oil....

the cloth can be useful to catch dust and etc...

you could also use the k&n precharger screen in between the 2 mesh screen to pickup small particles.

That is a good idea! I ran just mesh to keep the rocks out, I bought a 4 inch K&N, but the damn thing would not fit cause compresor clearance next to the frame. I would have tried, that I got lucky and had no real issues.

well, the cloth will help collecting all the small dust and etc...and having it oiled will help it as well, also, oiled filter will suck less water at submersion that dry filter

I used to run a section of a K&N drop-in filter that I cut out and clamped across the inlet:

It would get dirty pretty quickly, so I had to change it every month or so. Eventullay I just ran the screen and it was fine for almost 2 years. Then I finally got around to getting a proper filter on there:

What I have got for mine is a K&N custom filter that is about 3 x 5 x 2 (rectangle) I havent used it yet on my turbo yet cuz I blew up my ZC adn tossed a d16a6 in for the winter but I am running it on the d16 and it seems to be ok so it should work well for my turbo I hope....I did try putting other things on for my turbo like cheese cloth and stuph but it would get dirty so quickly (I had an exhaust leak I think) that it wouldnt hit any boost at all with those thigns on. so I ran with nothing for a while worked fine but I realy didnt like the thoughto f all the dust running thru my engine....in the end get a filter on it, nothing is gonna catch the dust and crap better...

Maybe it's where I live (miami), but none of the boost guys even run filter's here or even mesh screens. Just open turbo's with velocity horn's on them for looks i guess..

These are on 400-550+whp cars too..

I heard good things about Apexi filters, I think that's what I would run if I had to run a filter.

Well, I think Miami still has dust right? I wouldnt want to have my very expensive rebulilt engine running around with dust scraping the walls and wearing it out a whole lot quicker, especially if I am really pushing on it that is enuf wear and tear no need to add more wear and tear

I use the screen/shirt combo too. I remember a while ago someone used a motorcycle filter. Anyone got pics of this or know exactly what filter they used?

No filter or screen here!!! Rather make extra HP and change the turbo once a year!!!

i had bought a cheesy APC intake to cut down and use for the intake, but decide not to cut it down to find out it wouldnt work and lose meont and an intake. so i just took an old screen door and cut 2 pieces and kinda like crossed meshed em to make it more fine mesh . only on for a week , but works good.
turbo makes a crazy like wistling nois before it gets into boost. like preboost noises. . sounds wicked as hell . 1st its the whistling thne the pshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh of the boost. its nutty
