Im about to make my downpipe for my turbo set up on my b16 and was considering just running a downpipe out of the side by the front bumper, im not really worried about emissions or that crap. any ideas on if this would gain any performance? it will be a 3 inch dp, i might try to fit a little resinator on the end to quiet it a bit. let me know what you think..

 

LOL.... My car was open down pipe just until the test pipe was made. LOUD AS ****, sounded like a lawn mower. Don't do it if you plan on driving on the street

 

yea thats what i was afraid of....

 

mine was loud, but no louder than a harley. i never got a second look from a cop...

it just got annoying after a while, so i had the testpipe hooked up. with it open the turbo spools faster tho.

 

Yeah its rather loud and obnoxious, its all preference, just keep in mind you will get hasled for it.. BTW, i do it anyways, lol

 

i have been running open DP for months now i only got pulled over once but i didnt get a ticket for it. the turbo does spol alot faster but dont plan on talking on a cell while you are driving it just dont work but i drive my car everyday for even work and you get used to it

 

ya its loud.....and it smells. after long trips around town, i used to smell like exhaust

 

It's loud and it's fun. If you don't get hassled by cops for a loud exhaust (I don't locally, I have in other parts of the state) you should run it like that for a while.

For long trips, or past the first week or two, it gets obnoxious. Longer than 15 minutes in the car leaves your ears ringing. You get to the point you even feel bad about disturbing the neighbor you hate when you come home late at night.

 

I'm actually running open DP again this week while I'm waiting for my new Cat to come in. It's louder then I remembered, but still LOTS of fun and a hella of a lot quicker then it was while I had the stock exhaust on there
I couldn't take it for more then a week or so, I'd get tired of everyone being afraid of my car (except the ricers, they love it)

 

Im just considering running it for awhile, i don't have $400 sitting around for a 3" exhaust yet....Also i dont' think i'll really have a problem with the cops, imports aren't taht big around here...Would a resonator quiet it a bit?

 

Will a 3" exhaust affect the cars performance in any way. I had a resonator on mine and it made a pretty significant difference when I took it off. With no resonator though mines to loud. Thanks

 

I ran open DP one time to make a trip to the parts store when I lost one of the nuts to bolt my exhaust up to my cat. It's pretty damn loud, even on a little D16... it doesn't really sound all that intimidating to me, just loud and annoying. Also you'll get a lot of snap, crackle and pop when decelerating. It is pretty sweet to hear the turbo spool up and down through the DP though... sounds like one of those diesel trucks with a straight pipe.

 

Yeah, right now I am running an open dp and it sounds like a freakin deisel truck! I love it though, the way it spools so fast and being able to break loose in 4th gear when punching it full throttle.........the only down fall, long trips in car I'll smell like fuel and its very loud on highway trips.
