Anyone ever blow a fully built honda motor.
Just asking? Want to know what the cause was. Just for my info. I am reffering to a fully built head and bottom end. I know shafts are a week link but anything do to detonation, runnin lean, boostin to much ETC ETC.
Thanks

running ungawdly ammounts of boost. The actual race motors thats i broke were caused by excessive boost which melted the piston.

Re: Anyone ever blow a fully built honda motor. (b18bturbo)
I noticed that happends to race motors. Drew Bermea here did the same thing and also keeps blowin his head Gasket. I am just taking precaution since I will be just about done with my upgrades as far as better fuel for daily driving and break in.
also is there a way we can run around the melting piston thing. I read that Bergenholtz is runnin 50 Lbs on his godzilla sleeved block with some alcahol as fuel.
thanks for the quick response

I also wanted to know what would your advise be as far as a good fuel delivery system for a daily driven B18A/B. I got onein my 92 HB with a T3/T4 60-1. I have the FMU, stock injectors, stock ECU for now and a Bosch Fuel Pump and regulator. My motor has been fully done up I am just askin for some advice before I roll her out.

i would use 370cc injectors with some type of injector control unit. I designed and used my own that adjusted based on the map sensor readings. that would be good enough for 12psi which should put your hb in the 12s

what control unit would you advise for now. I will go all out for next year and go speed pro. but for now can you give me an ideal fuel set up besides the 370 injectors. Something not to costly but ideal. I checked out and researched management systems but want something I know that will suit my needs. Speed pro is costly that is why I dont want to empty some out to much from my pocket.
thanks

go with a FMU 6:1 SAFC and get larger injectors. Thats the simple solution. Its not the greatest but it does work.

We blew our built B18C1 motor last week. Daily driven as well. Due to sustained heat at high rpms.
Ouch.
Info on the motor here:

you say you blew the motor from sustained heat. Was the cause from the radiator, thermostate not monitoring your guages etc. What car was it in and what set up as far as top, bottom end build up.
thanks

Wow....that is quite the setup you had there....you blew it at 14 psi? What is up with the high heat at high rpms...were you guys doing some autocrossing or something like that?

bad tuning and excessive boost pressure will cause failure...even a well tuned motor with excessive pressure, in the form of too much boost, or too much sustained boost meaning amount of time under pressure...will cause failure
