Anyone else lose power using FILTER???
i just threw on a apexi filter onto my turbo. before, once i hit boost, i could feel my car pull really hard. but after i put on the filter, i dont get that same pull anymore.
i was running with no filter before. does anyone else have this problem?

Yes, you lost power, but it should be minimal. Shouldn't really be able to feel it even. I don't know about Apex but with a K&N you're probably losing about 1-3hp. Paper filters are another story.

make sure your filter has enough CFM for your HP.
and for no filter vs filter - to me a filter is a must so i don't really think about it.

mine is just like this, with one of the rubberhose ends going directly to the turbo, ill try to get pics tomrowo if that helps,
but it feels like i lost A LOT of hp compared to when it was off.

Re: Anyone else lose power using FILTER??? (-iLLuZioN-B18C1)
maybe a filter with a larger surface area would be better? seeing at how the turbo pulls in such a huge volume of air to pressurize. filter might not flow enough cfm as someone started saying above.

Re: Anyone else lose power using FILTER??? (twkdCD595)
I had a shitty mushroom filter setup, and I recently swapped to the Apex power filter and it was night and day diffence on my car. My turbo can actually breathe now, feels like it spools a little faster, it sounds better(not all congested) This is however on the butt dyno. But I was considering paying for a few dyno pulls and starting with no filter, then my shitty filter, and then the Apex filter just to find out for myself. I'll post the results here if I do it.

for those saying not enough cmf, what filter are yall using and what kind of dimensions are they?
quickb18, have you ever driven no filter? if so, does yours seem to pull even better without the filter than apexi?

Re: Anyone else lose power using FILTER??? (-iLLuZioN-B18C1)
you need to find out the specs from manufacturer, but i doubt apexi would respond to a request like this.. mine is a small fitler 4" by 6" and i was told it should flow up to 325 or 350hp by K&N - thats 260whp at the worst with 20% loss. ****, thats how much hp i run.. i wonder if i'm at the limit or not.
in general, filter just has to be large enough for your setup, if its too large you don't gain any hp.

I Have used 4 different filter setups
1) No filter/wire mesh
2) K&N filter(ripped)
3) Top speed mushroom filter(sucked)
4) Apex filter
I started with no filter because i wasnt sure what i wanetd to tuse due to fitment, ran no filter for a week, until I just got a K&N and slapped it on. month later the K&N flange ripped, so A friend gave me a top speed filter(mushroom) and slapped it on for the time being. Honestly betweeb no filter, and the k&n was hard to say which one felt faster, but they both felt better than the mushroom filter. The only difference i noticed was when I installed the Apex filter.
Like I said I may dyno all 3 setups soon, just to find out out of curiosity. I dont think i've ever seen anyone popst a dyno comparison between filter setup's so I think it would be an interesting thread.

Re: Anyone else lose power using FILTER??? (censored)
Running a metal screen over the turbo intake is the least restrictive for sure. I also felt a huge loss in power when I install the crappy HKS knock off that came with my kit. I mean a HUGE loss. So I went and bought a K&N and it made a very big difference. An Apexi is supposidly the best so I dont know what to tell you. Take off your filter and rip around the block. See if thats the problem. I wouldnt run no filter for very long though

well see, that is what i did exactly. first i didnt have my adapter for the apexi filter built yet so i just cut one of my old filters and slaped that directly on the turbo. then. when i went to retune my car recently, we ran with no filter. so i drove it home like that, no filter. pulled really nice. then i finished the apexi filter, bolted it on, and man, the pull is not nearly as good anymore.

Re: Anyone else lose power using FILTER??? (-iLLuZioN-B18C1)
Putting a filter on should not make a noticable difference...Unless, as stated above the filter you have is just too small therefore restricting air intake...A properly sized filter will not do this and you wont notice a difference one way or the other...

i meant of course you will loose some power, but i guess i thought it was common sense. i'd rather loose a few HP for something that will protect my motor.

well, i know you will lose power, but not that much.
as for is it big enough? im only makin 290ish whp, do yall think the apexi is big enough to handle that power?
