Default Any one here boosting a ls/vtec??

If you are how much boost and do u have lower compression pistons ?? How would the power be compared to power of a b16a at the same boost pressure?? I would like to know some pros and cons of this setup. thanks

I am, well I have managed to hit 4psi, no higher, due to some unknown prob., most likely a boost leak, but I will post up how I like it tomorrow when I find my boost leak. Incognito also has one, and I am sure he will postup his thoughts.

I think "Incognito" on this board is boosting an LS/Vtec. Fast too.

Well i will give my two cents on LS/Vtec turbo'ed blocks. The rod/piston ratio is not that great at all. Now at low boost pressures, under 10psi this really isnt that much of a factor, but when upping the boost the geometry off the crank comes into play. Even replacing the factory components with stronger aftermarket ones (pistons, rods, etc) will help, but will not alleviate the tensile stress that the bottom end will see. If i were to build any engine i would go with a b16a block, go with aftermarket internals and a block girdle. This would be the best, most reliable, most durable engine for high boost applications in terms of an engineering standpoint. There are alot of LS/Vtec blocks that fail when just N/A, let alone boosted. I would just stick to a factory engineer'd engine like the b16a/b18c then to create something like a LS/Vtec, besides you really arent gaining anymore hp over a resleeved b16(bored to 84mm). Money better spent would be a built b16a block.

you mentioned that the best would be a b16 or b18c, but do you realize that the r/s ratio of the b18c is pretty similar to the ls?

I have an LS/VTEC turbo hatch with built bottom end, and it runs a lot better than this guy's built B16 that I know of. His car isn't making nearly close mph in the 1/4 as mine, and he's running more boost. I haven't had any personal experience with built turbo B16's, but I do like the built turbo LS/VTEC setup. Ran 11.4 at almost 119MPH at a hair under 10psi, on little slicks, street trim.

Not sure about the rod stroke ratio thing or how it works, but if this is a street car, I can tell you that my setup at 9.5psi is way more than you can use on the street. No traction full throttle until well into 4th gear. Just breaks tires loose on throttle.
