Default Another VS topic....

h22 with about 7 psi, hondata tuned, stock motor

or

b16a with about 10-15 psi, hondata tuned, eagle rods, je or RW slugs

Im just curious which would be better. B16a weighs less, but... h22 more torque.

Both are going to cost me relatively the same amount of money. Essentially is it worth boosting an H22? or does it just make more sense to go b16a?

This is for my 93 civic HB, and I'm only looking for 250-300 whp.

Weekend, and evening car, not daily driven

go for the H22, it will be more reliable imo, and you will always have room to boost more on it .

My understanding was that the H22 bottom end can't take more then 7 psi because the sleeves are super thin and will crack. I also read that you can change the pistons (ie forged) without sleeving the bottom end.

These are the reasons im kinda thinking twice

well, thats true, the ringlands on the stock pistons are pretty weak and i guess 7psi is what they can handle (I like to take risks ). I would stay with the h22 anyways, because b16 sleeves wont be able to handle 15psi with reliability. Besides, H22 alone in a hatch is pretty nasty!!!

I though b-series blocks were good up to around 20 psi with really good tuning. Another option is to post the b16a block, and use a block guard. Its cheaper then sleaving, with a decent improvement for the bottom end

there are many different opinions on posting and using a b.g. Some people say you dont really need them if the tuning is right.

It also depends if you are gonna daily drive the b16 at 15psi which i dont recomend, but if only for race time its ok.

Are these psi numbers for daily driven, or max power?

h22 would be 7 psi, top output
b16a 12-15 psi, maybe a few more psi on track day

Its not a daily driven car, but would be driven quite often

I'd go with the B16.

Forged internals > stock internals.

my fiitty cent is the b16, lots more of them out there, makes parts easier to come by and usually cheaper than h22 stuff.

Also, H22 will have a lot less room in the engine bay, I've heard turbo fitment is VERY tight! Althought it kinda is with b series too.........

Its a bitch because i want to go H22, but the bottom end issues is the only thing holding me back.

I have seen way too many h22 turbo's blow.
All the b series seem to take it well.
